Louisville Bats News Release
DES MOINES, IA - The Louisville Bats (62-54) mounted a furious ninth-inning rally to defeat the Iowa Cubs (67-48) by a score of 5-4 on Friday night.
Louisville opened up the scoring in the second inning on an RBI groundout from Chuckie Robinson before the I-Cubs bashed two home runs in the third to open up a 4-1 advantage.
The Bats closed the gap to two in the fourth with a Michael Siani sacrifice fly to center that brought Robinson in to score from third and set the stage for a ninth-inning comeback.
Reds rehabber Ben Lively was solid in his second rehab start, tossing 5.0 innings, allowing four runs on four hits with a season-high six strikeouts and one walk. Lively gave up just one hit before Iowa got to him in the third inning and followed the frame retiring the next six batters he faced in order.
Jose Barrero kicked off the ninth inning charge for the Bats, legging out a double to leadoff the frame. Robinson knocked an RBI double of his own down the right field line before Matt Reynolds launched a sacrifice fly into the outfield to tie the game 4-4. Nick Martini then laced an RBI single into right to take the lead for good, putting Louisville ahead 5-4.
Ricky Karcher (4-3, 6.23 ERA) picked up the win after tossing a scoreless eighth inning, and Daniel Duarte (4-0, 3.06) secured his fifth save of the season by retiring all three batters he faced in the ninth.
Tomorrow's contest will feature right-hander Connor Phillips (1-1, 3.16 ERA) drawing the start for the Bats, facing off against Iowa righty Caleb Kilian (7-1, 3.97 ERA).
