Rochester Red Wings News Release

The Rochester Red Wings dropped their second-straight game in Buffalo Friday night, 14-8, falling behind 2-1 in the series. DH Luis García launched his first home run with the Wings as part of a two-hit night, while 1B Jake Noll scored a career-high four runs. Five hitters collected multiple walks, highlighted by CF Jack Dunn with three in what was the most free passes in a single game by a Red Wing team since they also drew 12 on 5/6/2016 in Pawtucket.

Buffalo struck first again Friday night, loading the bases with no one out in the bottom of the first on a walk and a pair of singles from the first three batters. After a free pass to 3B Addison Barger brought in the first run, DH Luis De Los Santos grounded out to first to extend the lead to 2-0 and move runners to second and third. After a walk to LF Tanner Morris, RHP Wily Peralta induced an inning-ending double play to escape with minimal damage.

Rochester cut into the lead in the next half inning. Jake Noll singled to lead off the inning and moved to third base on another single from RF Erick Mejia. In the ensuing at-bat, Noll came around to score on a passed ball to make the score 2-1.

The Bisons continued the trend in the bottom half of the second, putting a runner on third base with no one out. After a strikeout, RF Rafael Lantigua picked up an RBI on a sacrifice fly to push the Buffalo lead to two. The Wings went quietly in the third, and Buffalo added to their lead when C Jamie Ritchtie singled in Tanner Morris to make the score 4-1 in the fourth. A batter later, SS Ernie Clement picked up a bases loaded two-RBI single, his third and fourth RBI of the series to extend the lead to five. Another run crossed the plate before the inning came to an end, making the score 7-1 as the Wings came to the plate in the fifth.

DH Luis García launched his first home run with one out in the ensuing half inning to make the score 7-2. The homer was his first since 7/28 with Washington at Citi Field against the Mets, and first with the Wings since 5/14/2022 in Worcester. The home run snuck over the fence down the left field line at 92.8 MPH, the slowest by a Red Wing this season. After back-to-back bases loaded walks to Jack Dunn and C Brady Lindsly to cut the lead to three, Richie Martin reached on an error down the third-base line to score Mejia and make the score 7-5 to cap off a four-run fifth.

Buffalo added on to their lead in the sixth on a two-out, two-RBI single from Rafael Lantigua to give the Bisons a 9-5 lead. Luis De Los Santos drove in the teams' 10th run an inning later, and came around to score on a two-run single by CF Cam Eden. Buffalo added two more on a sacrifice fly and an error to make it 14-5 after six.

Scoring did not slow down in the seventh, and the Wings went to work cutting into the lead when Jake Noll led off the inning with his fourth homer of the season, a 402-foot shot to cut the deficit to 14-6. Pitching settled down in the eighth, and Rochester held Buffalo off the board for the remainder of the contest. The Wings tacked on two more in the ninth on a Brady Lindsly ground out and SS Richie Martin RBI single to make the final score 14-8.

RHP Wily Peralta (3-8, 6.63) made his team-leading 22nd start of the season Friday night, taking the loss. The right-hander worked 3.2 innings, allowing six earned on seven hits while striking out two and walking six. RHP Luis Reyes took the ball first in relief and delivered a full inning of work, allowing two earned on three hits. LHP Joe La Sorsa allowed four earned over the next 0.2 innings pitched, and RHP Hobie Harris covered 1.2 scoreless on one hit. The Wings turned to position player INF Paul Witt to cover the eighth, his second appearance of the season. He turned in a scoreless frame on one hit while walking one.

Friday night's Diamond Pro Player of the Game is 1B Jake Noll. The Florida native went 2-for-3 with his fourth home run of the year, an RBI, a walk, while scoring a career-high four runs. He now has 31 home runs since the Wings became a Nationals affiliate in 2021, most of any Red Wing over that span.

Rochester went 4-for-6 on ABS challenges, while Buffalo went 2-for-4.

The Wings will look to even the series Saturday night, as RHP Jackson Rutledge takes the mound in search of his second-straight win. First pitch is set for 6:05 p.m.
