Hamilton Bulldogs News Release
OKLAHOMA CITY, OKLAHOMA - The Hamilton Bulldogs held a lead on the Oklahoma City Barons in all three periods of regulation time on Wednesday evening, but the Barons (31-27-2-9) tied it late before edging the 'Dogs (30-33-1-5) 5-4 in a shootout at Cox Convention Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Oklahoma City forward Matthew Ford opened the scoring on the power play at 4:31 of the first period, with assists from forward Andrew Miller and defenceman Brad Hunt.
Hamilton defenceman Drew Schiestel tied the game 1-1 with his first goal of the season on the power play at 8:31 of the opening frame, assisted by defenceman Morgan Ellis and forward Louis Leblanc.
Bulldogs forward Patrick Holland gave the 'Dogs a 2-1 lead with 2:08 to go in the first period when he deked to his backhand and slid the puck past Barons goaltender Richard Bachman for his sixth goal of the season. Forward Martin St. Pierre had the only assist on the play.
OKC defenceman Brandon Davidson tied the game 2-2 with a point shot at 5:13 of the second period, with assists from Andrew Miller and Hunt.
The Barons took a 3-2 lead at the 10-minute mark of the middle frame with a goal by forward Travis Ewanyk, assisted by forward Greg Miller.
Oklahoma City held that lead until 3:47 into the third period, when Hamilton forward Sven Andrighetto sniped his 16th goal of the season past Bachman to tie the game, 3-3. Defenceman Greg Pateryn had the only assist on the play.
At 13:27 of the third period, forward Gabriel Dumont poked at Bachman's pads a couple of times until the puck came loose and trickled in to give the 'Dogs a 4-3 lead. Ellis had the only assist on Dumont's team-leading 17th goal of the season.
Just over two minutes later, Barons forward Greg Chase tied things again, 4-4, ultimately forcing overtime. Assists on the play went to Greg Miller and defenceman David Musil.
After a scoreless overtime, Oklahoma City forwards Alex Lavoie and C.J. Stretch beat Hamilton goaltender Robert Mayer in the shootout to win the game for the Barons, 5-4. Andrighetto scored the only shootout goal for the Bulldogs.
Mayer made 35 saves on 39 shots in the Bulldogs net in the loss. Bachman stopped 24 of 28 shots for the Barons in the win.
