Corey Cowick Names Binghamton Senators 2013-14 IOA/American Specialty AHL Man of the Year

BINGHAMTON, NY - The Binghamton Senators are proud to announce that Corey Cowick has been named the team's winner of the IOA/American Specialty AHL Man of the Year award for his outstanding contributions to the Binghamton community during the 2013-14 season.
Cowick has been a fan favorite since first joining the B-Sens during the 2010-11 season. From day one with the team, he has always been at the forefront when it came to players volunteering for community appearances. Whether called upon or not, Cowick has always makes time for everything from an interview, autograph or community outing.
Despite growing up in Ontario, Cowick has treated Binghamton like it was his hometown from day one. Over the past four seasons, the 24-year-old has participated in a number of community events including school appearances, working with mentally and physically disabled children as well as volunteering with local animal shelters. The Binghamton area views Cowick as not just a hero on the ice, but a hero in the community as his personality and dedication to the people in area has always been first class.
This season Cowick decided to take his community pride to the next level by starting his own Relay for Life Team- Cowick's Fight For A Cure. This initiative raises money for the American Cancer Society and has over $8,000 to date for cancer research. Cowick's personal pledge for the season was to donate $10 for every successful Binghamton penalty kill at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena. Between his donations and those of local businesses, youth hockey teams and dedicated fans, this initiative is expected to raise over $10,000 before the end of the season.
Cowick is now one of 30 finalists for the AHL's 2013-14 Yanick Dupre Memorial Award, honoring the overall IOA/American Specialty AHL Man of the Year. The league award is named after the former Hershey Bears forward and AHL All-Star who died in 1997 following a 16-month battle with leukemia. The winner of the Yanick Dupre Memorial Award will be announced by the American Hockey League later this month.
