Bakersfield, Calif. - The Bakersfield Condors will play their first game of 2006 this Saturday when they face off against the Alaska Aces. Monday, January 9th, the team will line up against the Idaho Steelheads.
Join the Condors at 7pm at the Rabobank Arena on Saturday, January 7th as they host the Alaska Aces for a heavily anticipated rematch of the teams' 2005 Kelly Cup Playoff series. The two teams squared off in a three-game set earlier this season up in Anchorage, and both are eager to meet again in Bakersfield. The first 2,000 children age 12 and under in attendance will receive a Condors backpack courtesy of KGET-TV 17 and Goodwill Industries. The black drawstring backpack tote features the Condors gray logo on the front and comes complete with a cell phone pocket, mandatory these days on any quality backpack.
Also on Saturday, Mento Buru will perform outside on the Centennial Plaza at 6pm and inside the arena during the first intermission. Among other tunes, the band will perform their song "Minor League Nose Break" from the Growing Up Fighting: Bakersfield Hockey Vol. 1 compilation album.
The Condors and Aces game on Saturday will be televised live on Bright House Networks Ch. 21 and will be replayed Sunday at 7pm on Ch. 21.
Since Monday Night Football done for the year, come enjoy some Monday Night Hockey in Condorstown. The Condors will take on the Idaho Steelheads Monday, January 9th at 7pm. This game is a 29 Eyewitness News & SC Architect Condors Classroom Champions Night. As part of Classroom Champions, students who achieve outstanding attendance levels will receive a complimentary ticket to Monday's game. The doors open at 6pm both nights.
After the game on Saturday, visit the Holiday Inn Select Autograph Booth where defenseman Scott Basiuk and Goalie Ryan Cyr will be signing autographs. The Holiday Inn Select Autograph booth is located behind section 108. On Monday, Condors defenseman Kevin Truelson and forward Jason Norrie will be on hand for autographs at the Holiday Inn Select Autograph Booth.
