
Checkers' fast start, strong finish downs Columbia, 5-2

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Dusty Jamieson's hat trick led the Charlotte Checkers to a 5-2 win against the Columbia Inferno Wednesday night in front of 3,780 fans at St. Lawrence Homes Home Ice at Charlotte Bobcats Arena. Jamieson was named the First Star of the game scoring a goal in each period including the first and last goals of the game.
Checkers goalie Jeff Glass picked up his seventh win of the season making 45 saves on 47 shots. Glass was named the Second Star of the game. Defenseman Jake Ortmeyer was named the Third Star of the game after registering two assists on the night.
The Checkers struck first with Jamieson's first goal of the night, on the power play, at the 6:46 mark of the first period. Columbia tied the game as Travis Lisabeth would score on a power play at the 1:39 mark of the second period.
Jamieson picked up his second goal of the night at the 10:38 mark of the second period and the Checkers added to the lead as Kenton Smith scored on the power play at the 13:01 mark of the second. Lisabeth would strike again for the Inferno with his second goal of the night cutting the Checkers lead to 2-3 at the 14:23 mark of the second.
The Checkers fired in the final two goals of the night. Hugh Jessiman scored on the power play 41 seconds into the third period. Jamieson capped off the night for the Checkers as he picked up his 13th goal of the season at the 16:34 mark of the third period.
The Checkers were out shot 47 to 35 in the game, but scored on 3-of-5 power plays while the Inferno scored on just 1-of-5. Chris Houle picked up the loss for the Inferno.
