Alaska Aces News Release

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Alaska scored less than three minutes apart to break a 2-2 tie midway through the second period and polished off a 4-2 victory over San Diego Wednesday before 3,394 at the ipayone center, just the seventh win for the Aces in 46 games at the home of the Gulls.

Alaska's power play, with five goals in its last three games heading into Wednesday's game, remained on target, as Joe Talbot opened the scoring with a power play tally at 11:36 of the first period. 53 seconds later, Alex Kim beat Aces goaltender Matt Underhill from point blank range for the equalizer, but with 3:43 left in the frame and Alaska on a two-man advantage, Mike Scott blasted a one-timer home from the right circle for his 10th goal of the year and a 2-1 edge at intermission.

Richard Keyes tied the game early in the second period on a power play at 1:13, and San Diego appeared to be gaining momentum. But a soft wrist shot by Olivier Filion slipped by former Aces netminder Tom Lawson at 7:02 for a 3-2 lead that Alaska never relinquished. Less than three minutes later, Vladimir Novak swiped the puck from Kim and whistled a wrist shot top shelf for a shorthanded goal that gave the Aces a 4-2 margin. Underhill stopped all 10 shots he faced in the final period and 23 for the game as Alaska remained unbeaten in its last seven games on the road dating to November 12.

The Aces, 22-4-3 overall and owners of the best winning percentage in the league, travel to Phoenix overnight and face the Roadrunners for the first time ever tomorrow at 5:11 p.m. AST in the US Airways Center, formerly the America West Arena in downtown Phoenix, where the Aces have not played since the old Phoenix Mustangs competed in the WCHL during the 2000-01 season. Winger Cam Keith likely will be in the lineup tomorrow against the Roadrunners after appearing in one game (his eighth in the AHL) for the Peoria Rivermen during a recent call-up.

All Alaska Aces games, home and away, are broadcast live on KFQD AM 750 and at www.alaskaaces.com. In addition, all home games and selected road contests will be available on a pay-per-view basis on the internet, courtesy of B2 Networks.
