SAN DIEGO - The San Diego Gulls, who have won two straight, open a four-game homestand tonight against the red-hot Alaska Aces, who are 15-1-1 in their last 17 games.

SERIES HISTORY:
The Gulls and Aces have met three times so far this season with Alaska holding a 2-1-0 series edge. The teams square off two more times during the regular season, both in San Diego.

San Diego owns the all-time series match-up, posting a 69-22-7 record against its Northern Conference rival. The Gulls are 39-5-1 all-time against the Aces at the ipayOne Center.

LAST HEAD-TO-HEAD MEETING (OCT. 24 @ ALASKA ):
Tyler Weiman stopped 34 shots and the Aces went 0-for-9 on the power play, as the Gulls picked up their first win of the season with a 3-1 victory in Anchorage. It was a 1-1 game until David Svagrovsky put San Diego ahead for good 6:24 into the third period. Doug MacIver added the insurance marker at the 13:46 mark of the final stanza and that was all she wrote.

GULLS UPDATE:
San Diego (13-11-4) enters the day third in the Pacific Division, one point behind the idle Long Beach Ice Dogs and 10 points back of the front-running Fresno Falcons... The Gulls, however, have three games in hand on the Ice Dogs... San Diego is four points ahead of the fourth-place Bakersfield Condors, but Bakersfield has played three fewer games... San Diego has won two straight games and is 12-6-4 in its last 22 games (since getting off to a 1-5-0 start)... During the last three games, the Gulls have killed 24 of 25 penalties... They have scored three short-handed goals during that span, two of them scored by Alex Kim... San Diego is 6-3-3 at home... Including tonight, 10 of its next 12 games are at home...

PLAYER NOTES:
Kim is in the midst of a nine-game point streak. He has 17 points (7g, 10a) during that span. His career high point streak is 10 games, set in 2003-04... He leads the team with a +14 and has 24 total points (11g, 13a) in 15 games with the Gulls... Steve Hildenbrand has 24 points (10g, 14a) in the last 18 games... Richard Keyes has 23 points (7g, 16a) in the last 18 games... Jesse Bennefield has 16 points (9g, 7a) and is a +10 in the last 10 games... Tyler Weiman has won four of his last five decisions and has stopped 153 of 162 shots in that span (.944 save percentage)... He was named a runner-up for ECHL Goaltender of the Week honors...

ALASKA UPDATE:
Alaska (21-4-3) starts the day second in the West Division with 45 points, six behind the first-place Las Vegas Wranglers. The Aces, however, have played five fewer games than Las Vegas... Alaska also owns the second-best record in the entire ECHL... The Aces are unbeaten in regulation in 16 of their last 17 games (15-1-1)... Barrett Heisten, the ECHL's third leading scorer, is in the midst of a league-high 14-game point streak... Chris Minard has an 11-game point streak, while Ryan Gaucher has scored a point in 10 straight games... Minard is tied for the league lead with 25 goals and leads the ECHL with 11 power-play markers... Gaucher leads all defenseman with 30 points... Chris Beckford-Tseu (1.96), back from Peoria (AHL) and Matt Underhill (2.06) are ranked 1 and 2 in goals against average

TRANSACTIONS:
Jason Courtemanche and Justin Silver were signed today, due to San Diego's rash of injuries... David Svagrovsky was placed on seven-day IR today with a tear in his finger... Frantisek Skladany, who began the season with the Gulls, was called up to the NHL's Colorado Avalanche yesterday. He had been playing with the American Hockey League's Lowell Lock Monsters... Cody McLeod was recalled by Lowell yesterday... Martin Mandeville was placed on the seven-day injured list Saturday with concussion-like symptoms... Doug MacIver (knee), Andy Thompson (wrist) and Guillaume Fournier (concussion) all remain on the injured list...
