Pyle Named ECHL All Star Coach for third Consecutive Year
January 4, 2006 - ECHL (ECHL)
Atlanta Gladiators News Release
The ECHL announced today that Gladiators head coach Jeff Pyle has been named, for the third consecutive year, a co-coach in the ECHL All Star Game. Pyle will represent the Gladiators as a co-coach on the American Conference squad.
Pyle makes his third consecutive trip to an ECHL All Star game having represented the Gladiators on the Western Conference squad during the 2004 game in Peoria, Illinois while he was a co-coach on the American Conference Squad during the 2005 game in Reading, Pennsylvania.
Pyle joins Reading head coach Karl Taylor behind the American Conference bench. Davis Payne of Alaska and Glen Gulutzan of Las Vegas were chosen as the coaches for the National Conference. Payne and Taylor were selected as a result of having the best winning percentage in their conference through games of Jan. 3 while Gulutzan and Pyle were chosen using a combination of winning percentage and votes from coaches within their own division.
Jeff Pyle is in his third season as head coach and director of hockey operations for Gwinnett. The Gladiators have won 40 games and advanced to the Kelly Cup Playoffs in each of their first two seasons, including their inaugural season in 2003-04 when they were 42-22-8 and reached the conference finals.
Pyle is 237-165-54 in seven seasons as an ECHL head coach, having been head coach and director of hockey operations for Mobile of the ECHL from 1998-2002 when the team voluntarily suspended operations in preparation for its move to Gwinnett. Pyle had a 137-113-34 record in Mobile, advancing to the Kelly Cup Playoffs three times in four seasons, including 2001 when the Mysticks lost in double overtime to Kelly Cup Champion South Carolina in the Southern Conference Semifinals.
The Fresno Falcons are the host for the 2006 ECHL All-Star Skills Competition on Jan. 24 and the 2006 ECHL All-Star Game presented by Bud Light on Jan. 25. Both events will be at Save Mart Center and begin at 7 p.m. PT.
The Gwinnett Gladiators continue the 2005-06 ECHL season on the road on Friday, January 6th as they travel to Pensacola to take on the Ice Pilots at 8:05 p.m. The Gladiators offer several ticket packages for different needs as well as group outings, suites and birthday parties. For more information call 770-497-5100 or log on to gwinnettgladiators.com.
The Gladiators play all 36 home games at the Arena at Gwinnett Center located on Sugarloaf Parkway in Duluth and are the AA affiliate of the Atlanta Thrashers.
