
All-Star Left Wing Rowe Called Up to the AHL's St. John's Maple Leafs

Peoria, Ill. (January 27, 2004) â Head Coach/Director of Hockey Operations Jason Christie of the Peoria Rivermen of the ECHL announced today that All-Star left wing Randy Rowe has been called up to the American Hockey League's (AHL) St. John's Maple Leafs â the primary affiliate of the NHL's Toronto Maple Leafs.
Rowe will join St. John's as they open a six-game home stand tonight at Mile One Stadium against the Hamilton Bulldogs. Game time is 5:05 p.m. CT. The Maple Leafs will host the Bulldogs tomorrow night as well, before welcoming the Cleveland Barons for Friday and Saturday contests. The home stand concludes with games against the Syracuse Crunch next Tuesday and Wednesday.
Rowe â a 6-foot, 198-pound native of Burford, Ontario â earned Par-A-Dice ECHL All-Star MVP honors with three points (2g, 1a), including the game winner, in a 7-6 Eastern Conference win on January 21. The third-year left wing, who finished tied for second in the Hardest Shot Contest in the Skills Competition with a 94.1 mph slap shot, was also named as Captain for the Eastern Conference in his first All-Star game.
Rowe departs the Rivermen as the team leader in goals (25), game-winning goals (7), power play goals (7), points (45), shorthanded points (4) and plus/minus (+16). He is tied for first in the ECHL in game-winning goals, is third in goal scoring, tied for fifth in shorthanded goals and tied for 12th in points.
The Rivermen â a member of the ECHL, America's Premier "AA" Hockey League â host the Cincinnati Cyclones in two games in a row on Friday, January 30 and Saturday, January 31. On Friday, Joan Jett & The Blackhearts will perform in a post-game concert, sponsored by the Par-A-Dice Hotel-Casino, WGLO â 95.5 FM and Insight Media. Game time is 7:00 p.m. at Carver Arena. On Saturday, the first 2,000 fans will receive a Rivermen cap, courtesy of OSF â St. Francis Medical Center. Special game time 7:30 p.m. at Carver Arena.
On Sunday, February 1, the Rivermen welcome the archrival Toledo Storm to Carver Arena for the third time this season. Special game time is 1:00 p.m. to accommodate the Super Bowl. It is another Journal Star/Insight Media Family Day. Kids 12 and Under receive a $2 Upper Bowl admission. Kids Meals are available for just $2.50 and the first 1,000 meals come with a Mike Valley player card. Chuckie from the Rugrats will also appear courtesy of Nickelodeon.
