Linglet called up to AHL
January 27, 2004 - ECHL (ECHL)
Alaska Aces News Release
ANCHORAGE, Alaska â For the second straight day and third time in two weeks, the Alaska Aces have drawn attention from an American Hockey League club, as winger Charles Linglet has been called up to Utah.
Linglet, in his first professional season, ranks third among all ECHL rookies with 38 points and tied for second with 24 assists. He also leads the Aces with six power play goals and carries a respectable +4 rating through 41 games. The 21-year-old Montreal native went undrafted despite rolling up 123 points (52g-71a) in his next to last year of junior hockey in the QMJHL.
Linglet, who left for Salt Lake City early Tuesday morning, will make his AHL debut Friday and Saturday night as the Grizzlies play host to the Grand Rapids Griffins. Utah serves as the AHL affiliate of the National Hockey League's Dallas Stars. The Grizzlies had scouted Linglet among a handful of prospects at the recent ECHL All-Star Game on January 21, where the Alaska rookie had been voted a starter by a panel of Western conference coaches, team captains, media relations directors, broadcasters, and newspaper writers.
Mike Scott left early Monday morning to head for Providence, the AHL affiliate for the Boston Bruins. Mark Smith was called up to San Antonio January 12, and had an assist and a +1 rating in the two games he played for the Rampage, who serves as the AHL affiliate for the Florida Panthers. Smith, Scott, and Linglet are the first three active members of the Aces to earn promotions to the AHL in team history.
Alaska players will be attending a screening of the new Disney movie "Miracle" tonight at 7:30 p.m. Select members of the club will be appearing at Westchester Lagoon Saturday from 2:00-3:00 p.m. after participating in school appearances as part of the award-winning "Skate into Reading" program Wednesday and Thursday.
Alaska (24-14-3 overall, just four points out of the Pacific Division lead) remains idle from game competition until Friday, February 6, in the opener of a three-game series at Sullivan Arena against the Las Vegas Wranglers, continuing Saturday and Sunday, with game times set for 7:00 p.m. Alaska Aces games are broadcast live on KFQD 750 AM and at www.alaskaaces.com, with Jack Michaels calling the play-by-play. Coverage begins 20 minutes prior to the opening face-off, presented by GCI.
