Trenton Devils News Release
TRENTON, NJ (January 27, 2004) â The ECHL has announced that Trenton Titans goaltender Andrew Allen has been named ITECH HOCKEY Saver of the Week for January 19-25.
Allen was 2-0-0 with a shutout, a 0.50 goals against average and a .977 save percentage as the Titans went undefeated over the weekend.
"Andrew has been working hard both in practice and in games on staying focused and stopping the puck," said head coach Bill Armstrong. "He's a big part of why we've been able to have success after the All-Star break"
A native of Vankleek Hill, Ontario, Allen began the week on January 23 with a 26 save effort in a 3-1 win against the number one team the ECHL, the Wheeling Nailers. The 27 year-old then completed the weekend sweep on January 24 by stopping 17 shots in a 4-0 shutout of the Roanoke Express. It was his second shutout in his last six starts and his fifth as a Titan. Allen is now 11-11-3 on the season with 2.67 GAA and a .915 save percentage.
The 6-4 and 210 pound Allen was signed by the Titans on February 2, 2003 and made an immediate impact, posting shutouts in his first three starts and tying the record for consecutive shutouts set in March of 1997 by Darryl Paquette of the Hampton Roads Admirals. He has also dressed with the Binghamton Senators of the American Hockey Leauge for five games, going 2-1-0 with 1.92 GAA and .940 save percentage.
This is the second ITECH HOCKEY Saver of the Week award won by a Titans goalie this season. Rookie Chris Houle took the honors for November 11-18.
