Bakersfield Condors News Release
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Bakersfield Condors battled hard tonight but dropped a narrow one-goal decision to the Alaska Aces, 3-2, in front of 5,369 fans at Rabobank Arena on Friday night. D Kevin Truelson brought the Condors within one late in the third, but Alaska held on for the win. 2008-3-14 Derlago The Condors (19-34-9, 47 points) provided the Aces (36-21-5, 77 points) with four first-period power plays, but Bakersfield's penalty kill proved up to the task, shutting down the potent Alaska power play each time. The Aces out-shot the Condors, 12-7, in the frame, but both teams entered the first intermission in a scoreless tie.
Alaska F Ryan Reaves broke the tie 5:38 into the second stanza, beating G Yutaka Fukufuji on a two-on-one break. The Condors responded just 1:14 later, as LW Mark Derlago netted his team-leading 30th goal of the season after F Andrew Ianiero found him streaking down the right wing side. However, Alaska regained the lead with rookie F Josh Soares' 28th goal of the campaign, giving the Aces the 2-1 lead through 40 minutes.
Soares potted his second of the game 11:21 into the final frame, giving the Aces a 3-1 lead. With just over one minute remaining in regulation and Fukufuji on the bench for an extra attacker, Truelson brought Bakersfield within one when he hammered his 13th of the year into Alaska's net. The Condors continued their furious final-minute finish, but the game-tying goal eluded them, as the Aces held on to win, 3-2.
