COLUMBIA, S.C. (March 14, 2008)-The Sparre brothers, Daniel and newcomer Kris, played a prominent role as the Columbia Inferno (28-25-4-6, 66 points) beat the Florida Everblades (35-20-4-4, 78 points) 3-2 in a shootout Friday night. The Inferno's victory snapped their two-game losing streak and consequently ended a four-game winning streak for the Everblades.

The Inferno took a `1-0 lead 10 minutes into the first period when Mac Faulkner scored a one-timer from the slot on a pass from Jeremy Schenderling, beating goalie David Shantz. It was Faulkner's 12th goal of the year.

The Everblades tied the game 1-1 when winger Ernie Hartlieb scored to finish a tic-tac-toe play from Brandon Roach and Derek Damon. Hartlieb beat Todd Ford on the power play for his 23rd goal of the year.

The Inferno reclaimed the lead 10 minutes into the third period when the elder Sparre-Daniel-scored on the power play when his snap shot from the far circle zipped over Shantz's glove-side shoulder, with Faulkner and Jeff Miles earning the assists. It appeared the lead would hold, as the Inferno nursed the 2-1 advantage until deep in the third period. The Everblades, however, tied the game when Damon's blast from the point beat a screened Ford with just 2.6 seconds left on the game clock.

The two clubs skated to a scoreless overtime and headed for a shootout, where Jeremy Hall and Mathieu Melanson scored on the Inferno's first and Everblades' second shot, respectively. Shantz and Ford shined in the rest of the shootout, but the younger Sparre-Kris-sealed the victory in his first game in an Inferno sweater. Acting as the Inferno's sixth and ultimately final shooter, Sparred deked Shantz to the ice and slid the puck into an open net on the goalie's stick side.

The Inferno return to the Carolina Coliseum on Saturday, March 15 to host the Gwinnett Gladiators at 7:05 p.m.
