
Aeros Shut Down by Curve, 4-1

ALTOONA, PA - The Akron Aeros mustered just three hits and one run as they lost game three of a four-game series against the Altoona Curve 4-1 Wednesday at Blair County Ballpark.
Right-handed pitcher Joe Gardner suffered the loss for the Aeros pitching six innings, allowing four earned runs on eight hits and striking out six while walking two.
Right-hander Philip Irwin recorded the win for Altoona tossing 6.2 innings, allowing one earned run on three hits and striking out three while walking none. Righty Michael Dubee pitched an inning and a third of scoreless relief to earn the save.
The Curve (37-47) got on the board in the bottom of the first inning. With one out, Brock Holt hit a ground-rule double and Josh Rodriguez worked a walk. Andrew Lambo followed with an RBI single scoring Holt and giving the Curve a 1-0 lead.
Altoona scored again in the bottom of the third inning. Greg Picart was hit by a pitch to open the frame. With one out, he swiped second and scored on a Holt RBI single to make it 2-0. Rodriguez moved Holt to third on a single. Lambo followed with a sacrifice fly scoring Holt and giving the Curve a 3-0 lead.
The Curve added a run in the bottom of the sixth inning on a Travis Scott RBI triple to make it 4-0.
The Aeros (43-43) scored a run in the top of the eighth inning on a Tyler Cannon RBI double, but drew no closer as the Curve went on to the win.
The Aeros will look for the series win over Altoona Thursday. Akron will give the ball to left-handed pitcher Matt Packer, who is 2-8 with a 5.98 ERA in 2011. He will face right-handed pitcher Michael Colla, who is 4-4 with a 3.24 ERA this season. First pitch is at 7 p.m. The game can be heard on Fox Sports 1350 AM or online at sportsradio1350.com.
