Rock Cats OF Returns to Active Roster

July 6, 2011 - Eastern League (EL1)
New Britain Rock Cats News Release

New Britain, CT - The New Britain Rock Cats of the Eastern League announced late yesterday afternoon that their highly promising Outfielder - 23-year-old Joe Benson - has been returned to Active status with the Connecticut club after a month on the Disabled List. In fact, the 6'1"/ 210-pound native of Hinsdale, IL played for the Rock Cats in New Hampshire last night and, in two at-bats, had a Double and RBI in his first Eastern League action since June 2nd at New Britain Stadium. Benson went on the DL the next day and spent the next four-plus weeks rehabbing his now surgically-repaired left knee.

A former 2nd Round pick of the Minnesota Twins in the 2006 Draft, Benson was the Twins' 2010 Minor League Player of the Year after belting a team-leading 23 Home Runs - along with 20 Doubles and 7 Triples - in New Britain last season. The powerful hitter is also an outstanding defender as his above average speed enables him to cover large areas of the outfield, while his strong throwing arm gives opposing base-runners pause. At the time of his June 3rd shelving, Benson had appeared in 50 games for the 2011 Rock Cats and was batting .295 with 16 Doubles, 2 Triples, 5 HRs, 26 RBI, and 7 Stolen Bases.
