Dustin Byfuglien and Carl Corazzini both scored twice and the Admirals scored five power play goals as they defeated the Springfield Falcons 6-3.
Corazzini opened scoring on the power play at the 4:16 mark of the first, as he fired a rebound shot past Falcons netminder Karri Ramo. Corazzini scored twice in a game for his second-straight contest eight minutes later on another man advantage. Troy Brouwer assisted on the goal for his first professional point at 12:45. Springfield winger Eric Healy tallied a power play goal at 15:05 to move the Falcons to within a goal of the Admirals heading into the first break.
Healy knotted the score at two goals apiece with his second man advantage marker 13:16 into the middle frame. The game would remained tied going into the final frame.
Zdenek Blatny briefly gave the Falcons a one-goal lead 6:13 into the third period with yet another power play goal. However, the tide turned in favor of the Admirals at the 8:37 mark when Falcons defenseman Mike Egener was assessed a double minor and ten-minute misconduct. Brandon Bochenski send a slap shot from the left circle past Ramo at 10:14 to even the score at three goals all. Fifty-two seconds into the second minor penalty to Egener, Dustin Byfuglien blocked a clearing attempt at the blue line and skated the puck past three defenders before burying a rebound shot into the back of the net at 11:06. That would prove to be the game-winning goal, as Colin Fraser (even strength, 11:40) and Byfuglien (power play, 13:59) added goals to give Norfolk a 6-3 victory. Adam Berti picked up his first professional point with an assist on Fraser's goal and Jonas Nordqvist picked up his first North American professional point with an assist on Byfuglien's second goal.
Corey Crawford stopped 26 of 29 shots and earned the victory. Karri Ramo made 28 saves on 34 shots in his professional debut and picked up the loss.
Norfolk was 5-11 on the power play and tied a franchise record for power play goals in a game. Springfield was 3-9.
