HAMILTON, ON - Forward Tomas Fleischmann scored with four seconds remaining in the third period to lift the Hershey Bears to a 3-2 win over the Hamilton Bulldogs on Friday night at Copps Coliseum. With the loss to the reigning Calder Cup Champions, the Bulldogs record drops to 1-1-0-0 on the season.
The Bulldogs opened the scoring when Corey Locke notched his first goal of the season at 6:28 of the first period. Locke took a pass from Andrei Kostitsyn, broke in alone down the right wing and slid the puck past Bears goaltender Frederic Cassivi on the far side.
Hamilton took a two-goal first period lead at the 14:38 mark when Ajay Baines was left alone in front of the Bears net and finished off a pass from Kyle Chipchura to make the score 2-0. The goal came on the power play and occurred just after a two-man advantage expired.
The Bears cut the lead in half when defenceman Jamie Hunt registered his first goal of the season. The goal made the scored 2-1 and came with just 1:30 left in the first period.
After a scoreless second period, Hershey posted two goals in the third period to earn the victory. Chris Bourque evened the score 2-2 at 15:29 of the third period with his first goal of the season. Then with four seconds left in the final frame, Tomas Fleischmann notched the game-winning 3-2 goal for the Bears.
'Dogs goaltender Yann Danis made 36 saves on 39 shots while suffering the loss. Bears netminder Frederic Cassivi picked up the win, stopping 31 of the 33 shots he faced.
Hamilton was 1-9 on the power play while Hershey went 0-5 with the man advantage.
The Bulldogs next game is tomorrow night (Saturday, October 14th) when they travel to Albany to take on the River Rats. Hamilton's next home game is on Friday, October 20th against the Toronto Marlies.
