Adirondack Phantoms News Release

WINNIPEG - Friday night's game was already going to be a big one for Rejean Beauchemin. The Winnipeg native was one of four Phantoms returning to their home province for this weekend's two-game set against the Manitoba Moose, and he was going to see his first start of the season.

But Beauchemin made the evening extra special by making 30 saves to record his first professional shutout as the Phantoms took a 3-0 win in front of 8,800 at the MTS Centre.

The Phantoms held a 2-0 lead at the end of the first period, and it stood up throughout the rest of the night. They started out the scoring 4:20 into the first period when blueliner David Printz suddenly broke into his best impression of a center, skating straight down the slot and putting a deke on goaltender Wade Flaherty before flipping a forehand to the venerable netminder's stick side for his first goal of the season.

Philadelphia's lead grew to two goals with 4:26 remaining in the first period. The Phantoms were operating on a 5-on-3 power play advantage when Mark Cullen chipped in the rebound of a John Slaney drive from the point for his first goal as a Phantom.

The second period was scoreless, but was a strong one for the Phantoms despite not extending their lead. They snuffed out a five-minute high-sticking major against Stefan Ruzicka, only allowing six shots during the extended power play. Beauchemin and the Phantoms continued to shut Manitoba down in the third period, and gained an empty-net goal from Daniel Corso with 1:24 remaining.

Flaherty took the loss in his first appearance of the season for Manitoba, stopping 21 of 23 shots. Philadelphia goes to 2-0 on the year, while Manitoba settles for a 1-3-0-1 mark. It was Philadelphia's first ever win over Manitoba, coming in the fifth game all-time between the teams.

A complete boxscore of the game is attached.

A rematch will occur Saturday night at the MTS Centre, with the puck falling to the ice at 8:30 Eastern time. The Phantoms return home on Sunday, October 15 to take on Binghamton at the Wachovia Center at 7:05. Individual tickets for all Phantoms games, including $8 tickets for children 14 and under anywhere in the building, are on sale now at phantomshockey.com or by calling 800-298-4200.
