Norfolk Admirals News Release
NORFOLK, VA - The Norfolk Admirals are one of the hottest teams in the American Hockey League having picked up 14 points in their last ten games (6-2-1-1). They look to continue their winning ways in three home games this week before hitting the road for a nine-game, 17-day road trip.
Last week, the Admirals won two of three games against East division foes at Scope. On Wednesday night, Junior Lessard tied the game in the third period and netted the winning conversion in the shootout as the Admirals defeated Wilkes-Barre/Scranton 3-2. On Friday night, Jonathan Boutin made 27 saves and twelve different Admirals had points in a 5-0 victory over Binghamton. On Saturday night, Karl Stewart and Kyle Wanvig each had a goal and an assist but the Admirals fell to the Senators 3-2.
This week, the Admirals will welcome back the Penguins on Wednesday night at Scope before hosting the Worcester Sharks on Friday and Saturday night. All three games will begin at 7:15 p.m. Wednesday night is Baxter's College Night with a limited amount of $10 tickets for college students. Friday night is Military Appreciation Night with $8 tickets available for members of the military. Friday night is also team poster giveaway night for the first 2,500 fans, courtesy of Norfolk Used Tire. For more details on these promotions, please see below.
EAST DIVISION STANDINGS
At 17-28-2-4, the Admirals are seventh in the East Division with 40 points. The East is led by the Philadelphia Phantoms (33-17-1-2, 69 pts). The Hershey Bears (28-17-0-4, 60 pts) are in second place, followed by the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins (28-18-0-3, 59 pts), Albany River Rats (27-22-0-2, 56 pts), Binghamton Senators (24-19-4-4, 56 pts) and Bridgeport Sound Tigers (25-24-1-0, 51 pts).

ADMIRALS' LOG
- Norfolk's four-game winning streak (tied for longest of the season) and season-high eight-game point streak (6-0-1-1) came to an end on Saturday vs. Binghamton.
- Paul Szczechura's ten-game scoring streak (7-7-14) also came to an end on Saturday. The streak stands as the longest by an Admiral this season, is tied for the longest by an AHL rookie this season (Lake Erie's David Jones), and is tied for the fourth-longest point streak in Norfolk Admirals history.
- Junior Lessard's five-game point streak (2-4-6) also came to an end on Saturday.
- Karl Stewart registered points in all three contests this week (3-2-5).
- In Norfolk's 5-0 victory over Binghamton on Friday:
o The Admirals had their largest margin of victory this season.
o Ten of 11 Norfolk forwards recorded points.
o Every skater on the roster was at least +1.
o Norfolk was whistled for a season-low four penalty minutes.
o Jonathan Boutin made 27 saves for the shutout.
o The first four inductees in the Admirals Hall of Fame were enshrined: Founder Blake Cullen, Coach John Brophy, Player/Assistant Coach/General Manager Al MacIsaac and Player Rod Taylor.
- Admirals goaltender Jonathan Boutin has two shutouts in his past three games played. This season is the first in Boutin's three AHL campaigns that he has registered multiple shutouts, and he is the first Norfolk netminder to register multiple shutouts in a single season since 2004-05.
- Wednesday's win marked the first time since March - November, 2002, that the Admirals have defeated the Penguins in three straight games.
- If Norfolk picks up at least one more point against Wilkes-Barre/Scranton in their final two matchups, it will guarantee a .500+ points percentage in the season series against the Penguins for the first time since 2001-02.
ADMIRALS RBK/AHL PLAYER OF THE WEEK NOMINEE
Veteran winger Karl Stewart paced Norfolk with three goals and two assists in three home games last week. On Wednesday night against Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, his shorthanded goal midway through the second period changed the momentum of the game as the Admirals erased a 2-0 deficit in a 3-2 shootout win. On Friday night, Stewart registered a goal and an assist in a four-goal second period as Norfolk routed Binghamton 5-0. In the Saturday rematch against the Senators, Stewart once again notched a goal and an assist and had a team-best +2 rating in a 3-2 setback. Stewart was the second star of each game played last week.
