Hamilton Bulldogs News Release
HAMILTON, ON - The Hamilton Bulldogs, in conjunction with the Hamilton Wentworth District School Board and the Hamilton Wentworth Catholic District School Board, held the "It's Cool to Care" event today at Copps Coliseum. The event included the Hamilton Bulldogs Skills Competition and Red & White Game. Team Red won the skills competition 6-5 and then swept Team White with an 8-7 win in overtime of the inter-squad game.
In the skills competition, Team Red's Ryan Russell was the fastest skater with a time of 13.00 seconds. Pavel Valentenko, also of Team Red, recorded the event's hardest shot at 102 mph, while teammate Matt D'Agostini also broke the century mark with a 101 mph blast. Jaroslav Halak made 24 saves on 30 shots in the Rapid Fire event for Team White, and also turned aside 8-of-10 shooters in the breakaway relay to win the Top Goaltender Award with 33 saves on 41 shots.
Team Red also dropped Team White in the inter-squad game with an 8-7 win in overtime. Matt D'Agostini had two goals, including the overtime game-winner, while Ryan Russell and Jonathan Ferland also each tallied twice for Team Red.
Over 40 schools participated in the event and there were over 4,000 children in attendance. The fun and informative program delivered important messages about character building and taking a stand against bullying. The students, grades 4-6, attended a midday program that included a brief presentation by a family counselor and author, interspersed with positive messaging by players about dealing with conflict; caring for others; courage in adversity; perseverance; and sportsmanship.
