Aces Fall to Eagles 4-1

The Alaska Aces started strong, but it was the Colorado Eagle who finished stronger using three unanswered goals to lead them to a 3-1 win over the Aces on Friday night from the Budweiser Event Center in Loveland, CO. The Aces suffered their first ever loss to Colorado, but kept a four point lead over the Gwinnett for the league's highest point total. Alaska's lead over Ontario was shaved to five points, and remained at six points over Las Vegas at the close of their game, while Vegas was still battling Stockton. Alaska lost for just the second time in regulation in the last 12 games, falling to 40-16-9 on the season. The Aces finish up their season series with Colorado with a Saturday night rematch at 5:05pm AKT. They will return back home for the postseason in April. The Aces scored first when Bryan Miller tallied on a slap shot from the blue line at 4:56 for his 10th goal of the season. The Eagles tied the goal when Riley Nelson cut in off the right wing boards and snapped a quickshot over the glove of Shane Owen at 10:19. The Aces outshot the Eagles 7-6 in the period.

An early second period goal gave the Eagles their first lead of the week. Liam Huculak scored on a rebound from the bottom of the left circle at 2:18 of the frame to make it 2-1 Colorado. The Aces outshot the Eagles 9-6 in the period, but it remained 2-1 Eagles heading into the third period.

The Eagles struck early in the third to cap the scoring when Aaron Schneekloth scored off a one-timer, following a Colorado face-off win in the Aces zone.

Shane Owen (7-9-5) suffered the loss, making 14 saves on 17 shots. Kyle Jones (28-13-4) earned the win, stopping 28 of 29 shots. The Aces power play went 0-7, while the Eagles went 0-2. The Aces outshot the Eagles 29-17 in the game.
