Ontario Reign News Release
BOISE, Idaho. - The Ontario Reign (38-18-5-3), proud affiliate of the NHL's Los Angeles Kings, ended their four-game winless streak and tied the franchise record for most wins in a season with a 4-0 shutout over the Idaho Steelheads (27-30-2-6) Friday night at CenturyLink Arena.
Ontario broke their first period funk with two goals scored in the frame. Jason Fredricks fought the puck in the corner sending it behind the Idaho net to Kevin Estrada. Estrada sent a hard pass to Jason Beeman who had a clear shot and fired it past Steelheads goaltender, Jerry Kuhn at 10:14. With less than three minutes left in the first, Kyle Kraemer netted the second Reign goal of the game off a pass from Tristan King, who, in his first appearance since being activated off the injury reserve, extended his assist streak to six consecutive games.
Ontario extended their lead to four goals in the second frame. Mike Gabinet received an across-the-ice feed from King, and sent it up to Kraemer in front of the net. Kraemer caught Kuhn out of position and scored on the open side. An out of character fight between Kraemer and Steelheads captain Marty Flichel awarded each player five minutes for fighting. About 30 seconds later, Chris Huxley got into a scrum with Mike Hellyer and was given a game misconduct. At 12:42, Bill Bagron tallied his 25th goal of the season, a power-play goal, off a deflection of Vincent LoVerde's blueline shot. Gabinet assisted both goals of the period.
The Reign's penalty killing unit proved why they lead the league by killing 1:22 of Idaho's two-man advantage. J.F. Berube faced the most pressure in the final period of the game saving 10 shots. The Reign managed to hold onto their lead and keep the Steelheads out of the net. The victory earned Jason Christie a career-high 72.88% win record.
Berube earned his fourth shutout of the season, taking the league lead, stopping 25 shots, while Kuhn took the loss allowing four goals on 36 shots.
