March 16, 2012 - ECHL (ECHL)
Idaho Steelheads News Release
(Boise, ID) - Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Hardy Sauter announced Friday afternoon that forward Mike Hellyer has been signed and added to the team's active roster in time for Friday night's game against the Ontario Reign.
Also, forward Ron Meyers has been released from his amateur tryout agreement (ATO) and signed to a standard player contract for the remainder of the season.
Hellyer recently completed his college eligibility at the University of Manitoba in Canada. In five seasons with the Bison, Hellyer had 98 points (36 goals, 62 assists) in 135 games. He served as the team's captain this past season and he was third on the Bison roster with a plus-14 rating. Prior to that, the Brandon, Manitoba, native played four seasons of major junior hockey for the Prince Albert Raiders of the Western Hockey League, where he was a teammate of former Steelheads Aki Seitsonen and Rejean Beauchemin.
Meyers signed an ATO with Idaho on March 7 after concluding his college career at Alaska-Fairbanks. In five games since coming to Idaho, Meyers has three goals and a plus-2 rating and the Steelheads have gone 4-0-1 in that stretch.
The Steelheads host home games Friday (Mar. 16), Saturday (Mar. 17), and Wednesday (Mar. 21) at CenturyLink Arena. Tickets for all three games are available online at IdahoSteelheads.com or by calling the CenturyLink Arena box office at 208.331.TIXS.
Group outings at a Steelheads game are a great way to gather friends, colleagues, or co-workers for a fun night out in downtown Boise. Ticket prices are discounted and you can get a Pepsi, Double-R Ranch Hot Dog, and bag of Tim's Cascade Chips with each ticket.
