Chicago Express News Release

Hoffman Estates, IL - The Chicago Express, proud member of the ECHL and proud affiliate of the NHL's Columbus Blue Jackets, fired 34 shots on goal en route to a 5-2 victory over the Toledo Walleye at the Sears Centre Arena on Friday night.

Toledo wasted no time getting on the board in the first period when just 1:49 into the game C Todd Griffith intercepted an errant pass in the slot and fired a shot past G Rob Madore for the early lead. Chicago evened it up just 3 minutes later when F Pierre-Luc Faubert forced a turnover in front of the net and buried a wrist shot past Walleye G Alec Richards. The Express extended their lead at 7:40 on the power play when D Taylor Ellington made a diving poke to slide to puck into the offensive zone when F Danick Paquette fed Faubert a nice pass in the slot that Faubert snapped over the glove of Richards. Chicago held a 9-7 shot advantage in the period.

There was plenty of back and forth action early in the second period but it wasn't until 9:36 when Toledo LW Mike Thomas tapped a rebound past Madore to tie the game up 2-2. Chicago regained the lead on a Scott Wietecha slap shot off of a faceoff at 15:16 to make the score 3-2 going into the intermission. Chicago also extended their shot advantage to 26-15.

Chicago gave themselves a two goal lead 3:17 into the final frame. C Aaron Marvin pushed a face off to F Matt Gingera, and he stickhandled around Richards to push the puck into the net. It was Gingera's first professional goal. The Express finished off the scoring with their second power play goal of the game. A tic-tac-toe passing play ended on the stick of F Anthony Maiani, who one-timed a shot through Richards' five-hole, increasing the lead to 5-2. The Express would hold on to the lead for the 5-2 win, out-shooting the Walleye 34-23 in the game.
