TONIGHT
The Bakersfield Condors host the Utah Grizzlies for the second time this week and the 10th time on the season. The Condors own a record of 4-5-0-0 against Utah, with all nine games being decided in regulation. Bakersfield had won three straight in the season series until Wednesday's loss, and four of their losses to the Grizzlies have been by just one goal.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT
The Condors saw their four-game home unbeaten streak end Wednesday night when they fell 3-2 to the Grizzlies. LW Kyle Calder and F Robby Dee both lit the lamp for Bakersfield in the loss, while the Condors outshot Utah 34-29 in the game.
The Grizzlies have won four straight games and sit just two points behind Stockton for fifth place in the Western Conference. Utah has eight games remaining, including tonight, with only two home games during that stretch.
CONDORS NOTES
LW Kyle Calder took his first penalty of the season Wednesday, in his 18th game of the season... Wednesday night, F Robby Dee became the first Condors rookie since Matt Pope in 2008-09 to reach the 20-goal plateau. F Tyler Helfrich's 45 points are the most for a Condors rookie since Pope as well (see inset, right)...Dee is 11th among rookies in scoring while Helfrich is tied for fifth...G Scott Greenham becomes the first contracted goaltender this season, other than Bryan Pitton and Matt Keetley, to dress in a game...This is the fourth and final opening game of a 'three-in-three' for the Condors this season. Bakersfield is 2-1-0 in their previous three opening sets including a victory over Alaska in their last series.
GRIZZLIES NOTES
F Paul McIlveen was named the ECHL Player of the Week last week, after posting six points (3g-3a) in four games. He is tied for 6th in the ECHL in scoring... D Nick Tuzzolino has two game-winning goals against the Condors this season. He returned to the Grizzlies from the AHL Abbotsford Heat on Wednesday... G Andrew Engelage is tied for fourth in the ECHL in wins with 22...Utah has allowed 18 shorthanded goals this season, most in the league.
