Cincinnati Cyclones News Release
GWINNETT, Georgia - Cyclones captain Mathieu Aubin registered his second professional hat trick to help the Cincinnati Cyclones (30-24-2-7) defeated the Gwinnett Gladiators (37-18-7-4) by a 6-3 final score in front of 6,054 at Gwinnett Center on Friday night.
The Cyclones raced out to a 2-0 lead early in the opening period as Jonathan Hazen and Mathieu Aubin buried goals at 5:52 and 7:11 respectively. Gwinnett responded, though, when Tyler Murovich beat Cincinnati goalie Chet Pickard (W, 28 saves, 13-11-0-2) with a high wrist shot at 13:46 - making it a 2-1 game. However, the Cyclones would cash in on a power play just before the intermission as Anthony Luciani banged a rebound past Gwinnett goaltender Ryan Zapolski (L, 21 saves, 8-3-0-1) to give Cincinnati a 3-1 edge after 20 minutes.
Cincinnati extended their cushion to 4-1 at the 7:29 mark of the middle frame as rookie Matt Carter sent a low wrist shot past the right pad of Zapolski. Gwinnett answered back with a goal of its own at 16:40 when Dallas Jackson blasted in his eighth of the season, making it 4-2 Cyclones at the second intermission.
Just 1:09 into the final frame, Aubin rocketed a one-timer from the slot between the legs of Zapolski, giving his team a commanding 5-2 lead. The Gladiators would once again pull within a pair of goals as, at the 9:02 mark, Jacob Drewiske lit the lamp by ringing a shot off the left post and in. But in the final minutes, as Gwinnett pulled its goalie, Aubin lofted a puck from within his own zone into the empty net for a hat trick and a 6-3 Cyclones lead at 19:17. Cincinnati went on to win by the same score. Aubin became the second Cyclone to register a three-goal game this season and gave him two as a professional.
With the season series against Gwinnett complete, the Cyclones will now travel back to South Carolina to visit the Stingrays tomorrow night at 7:05pm. Fans can hear all the action of the game on the Cyclones Radio Network (1050-AM, America One) beginning at 6:50pm.
