ABOUT LAST NIGHT: The Indianapolis Indians and Buffalo Bisons traded runs in the first half, but the Bisons ultimately emerged victorious over the Indians on Friday night at Sahlen Field, 8-5. With the game tied at five runs apiece in the bottom of the fourth inning, Buffalo took the lead for good with an RBI single from Rafael Lantigua. The Bisons added another run in the fifth on a bases-loaded ground out and put the game out of reach for Indianapolis in the bottom of the seventh thanks to a Nathan Lukes RBI double. After Jared Triolo was walked with two outs, Canaan Smith-Njigba smacked a double off the center field wall to tally game's first run. Buffalo responded in the next inning with an RBI single off the bat of Luis De Los Santos. A Malcom Nuñez two-RBI single gave the Indians a two-run advantage in the third, but a three-run blast from Orelvis Martinez gave Buffalo their first lead in the bottom half of the frame. In the following inning, Aaron Shackelford doubled to tie the game once more, and a Nick Gonzales sacrifice fly put the Indians in front. Lukas evened the score for a final time with an RBI single to right field before Buffalo scored its three unanswered runs.

SHACK FOR EXTRAS: Aaron Shackelford doubled on Friday night to extend his hitting streak to six games. Dating back to Aug. 20, the lefty slugger is hitting .389 (7-for-18) with six runs scored, two doubles, two triples and two RBI. His triple on Thursday night was his second in a three-game span and was his career high third triple of the season. Alongside his career best in three baggers, he's drawn career-high 54 walks this season, surpassing his 40 walks in 2022 with Double-A Altoona. Shackelford has spent the entire season with Indianapolis, hitting .232 (76-for-328) with 17 doubles, three triples, 14 home runs, 50 RBI and a .781 OPS in 103 games this season. The 26-year-old is without a homer in each of his last 19 games and did not leave the yard in August. It was the first month this season in which he had not homered.

CSN SWIPES: Canaan Smith-Njigba swiped his 15th stolen base of the season with Indianapolis last night. He is now successful in 15 of 17 total stolen base attempts. He has 16 total stolen bases between Triple-A Indianapolis (15) and Pittsburgh (1), which ties his career best with Single-A Charleston in 2019. The 24-year-old leads Indianapolis in stolen bases and is the only Indian with double-digit home runs and stolen bases. Smith-Njigba is hitting .290 (9-for-31) with four runs scored, a double, two home runs, five RBI and five walks in his last eight games played.

NUNEY KNOCKS: Malcom Nuñez went 2-for-4 with a pair of runs batted in last night. Nuñez has hit safely in six of his last seven games. He was activated from the 7-day injured list on Aug. 8, after being sidelined for 60 games. He 14-for-58 with two doubles, two home runs and six RBI in 17 games since returning to Indy's lineup.

TRIOLO'S STREAKING: Jared Triolo reached base in two of four plate appearances last night with a double and a walk to extend his on-base streak to 23 games. If he manages to reach base in his next game, he will tie Ryan Vilade's team-leading 24-game on-base streak from June 4-July 4. Triolo has been a dependable force in Indy's lineup, he earned a new career-high on-base streak on Wednesday after reaching base safely, surpassing his previous best on-base streak of 20 games with High-A Greensboro from July 24-Aug. 18 in 2021 - he hit safely in all 20 contests. During his current streak, Triolo is hitting .346 (27-for-78) with 17 runs scored, eight doubles, two triples, a home run, nine RBI, 17 walks and .469 on-base percentage. The 25-year-old has hit safely in 11 of 13 games since being optioned by Pittsburgh on Aug. 18.

TONIGHT: The Indians and Bisons play the penultimate game of their six-game set on Saturday at 6:05 PM ET at Sahlen Field. Indy will look to snap their four-game losing streak against Buffalo with a win tonight. The last meeting between the two teams came from June 18-20, 2019, Buffalo won the series, 2-1. Tonight, RHP Jared Jones (3-3, 5.46) will take the hill for Indianapolis against Buffalo's RHP Wes Parsons (7-2, 4.10). Parsons makes his first start against Indianapolis since May 29, 2018, at Victory Field, he tossed 6.0 two-run innings with nine strikeouts.

MR. JONES: Jared Jones takes the hill tonight in his 12th Triple-A start and first against Buffalo. Jones is coming off his best Triple-A outing and second quality start of the season, posting 6.0 one-run innings on two hits, four walks and fanning 10 batters on Aug. 27, vs. Iowa. His two hits allowed were his least allowed since surrendering one hit in 4.0 relief innings vs. Memphis. The double-digit strikeout performance was the third of his career and first since fanning 10 batters on May 28, 2022, with High-A Greensboro at Asheville. He became the second Indians pitcher this season with 10-plus strikeouts in a game, following Quinn Priester's 11 strikeouts on June 24, vs. Columbus. Since his promotion to Indianapolis from Double-A Altoona on June 20, he leads the International League in strikeouts with 78, which is also the eighth-most in all of minor league baseball. Jones has gone 5.0 innings or more in five of his last six outings.

THIS DATE IN 1989: In Game 1 of the American Association Championship Series vs. Omaha, the Indians prevailed 5-4 in 14 innings in a Bush Stadium classic that lasted 4 hours and 17 minutes. Omaha took a 3-2 lead in the 11th, only to see Indianapolis respond with a run of its own in the bottom half to extend the game further. The visitors then claimed a 4-3 lead in the 14th, but Indy plated two in the home half to walk off. Delino DeShields homered and drove in a game-high three runs, and catcher Robbie Wine, who had just five hits in 11 regular-season games, went 3-for-5 with two runs scored from the ninth spot in the lineup.
