Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release
Allentown, Pennsylvania - A stellar offensive showing one through nine in the order for the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (70-59, 34-22) powered them to a 14-6 win over the Syracuse Mets (52-76, 19-35) on Saturday night at Coca-Cola Park.
The Mets got the scoring started as Daniel Palka smashed a solo homer in the top of the first inning.
The IronPigs took the lead in the third. Cal Stevenson doubled and Kody Clemens followed with another two-bagger to drive Stevenson in. Weston Wilson then tripled to score Clemens before Wilson scored on a Dustin Peterson sacrifice fly to make it 3-1.
After loading the bases to start the fourth, the IronPigs tacked on another as Stevenson singled home a run. Clemens then clubbed a grand slam, his 13th homer of the season and second grand slam, to extend the lead to 8-1.
Syracuse wedged their way back into the game in the seventh. Wyatt Young drilled a two-run homer and Jaylen Palmer belted a three-run shot to make it 8-6.
The IronPigs wrestled back control the rest of the way, scoring six unanswered runs. Rafael Marchan came in clutch with a two-out RBI single in the seventh. Esteban Quiroz clobbered a solo homer to lead off the eighth, his seventh of the season. Clemens collected his sixth RBI of the night later in the eighth with a run scoring double and Darick Hall put the cherry on top of the slugfest with a three-run homer, his 16th of the year, making it 14-6.
Despite the game becoming high scoring, Michael Plassmeyer (2-4) was stupendous to earn the win for the IronPigs. Plassmeyer allowed just a run over five innings on two hits and a walk, striking out seven.
David Griffin (2-5) suffered the loss for the Mets, conceding eight runs in six innings on 10 hits and a walk, striking out four.
The IronPigs and Mets conclude their series on Sunday, September 3, with first pitch slated for 6:35 p.m.
