Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp News Release
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Charles Leblanc's eighth inning home run was not enough as the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp fell to the Charlotte Knights 2-1 in front of 6,848 fans Saturday night at 121 Financial Ballpark.
After two scoreless frames, Charlotte (48-83, 13-43) took the lead in the third inning. Yolbert Sánchez led off with a single and scored on a double by Xavier Fernández.
The Knights followed suit with another tally in the fourth inning. Erik González and Laz Rivera worked consecutive walks off Jacksonville (63-67, 31-25) starter Enmanuel De Jesus (L, 4-5) and José Rodriguez singled to load the bases. Two batters later, Fernández smacked a sac fly to center, scoring González to give Charlotte a 2-0 lead.
Charlotte starter Chase Solesky (W, 1-8) retired 17 straight batters retired after Jake Mangum's leadoff single in the bottom of the first. However, it took until the eighth inning for Jacksonville to plate their first run. With two outs, Leblanc (10) crushed a solo shot off Knights reliever Chris Muller to cut the deficit in half.
The Jumbo Shrimp and Knights wrap up their series on Sunday at 6:35 p.m. LHP Ryan Weathers (2-0, 3.18 ERA) gets the ball for Jacksonville. Coverage begins at 6:20 p.m. on Bally Live, MiLB.tv, ESPN 690 and www.ESPN690.com.
Gates open at 5:30 p.m. for the final Baptist Health Sunday Family FUNday for the 2023 season. Don't miss out on the pregame catch on the field for the first 20 minutes after gates open. Also, kids can feel like the pros by running the bases after the game. After kids run the bases, make sure stick around for postgame Labor Day holiday fireworks! The Jumbo Shrimp will also be hosting Ed's Dinosaur Live, a throwback to the Triassic and Jurassic periods for a day full of dinosaurs.
