ABOUT LAST NIGHT: Henry Davis launched a solo home run in his first plate appearance of his rehab assignment, but the Toledo Mud Hens responded with runs in four-straight frames to defeat the Indianapolis Indians on Saturday night at Victory Field, 13-2. Making his first rehab appearance with Indy, Davis hammered the second pitch he saw to open the contest's scoring. Toledo axed the Indy lead with a four-run third inning, highlighted by an Eddys Leonard grand slam off Cam Alldred (L, 7-8). It was the first of four consecutive run-scoring frames, bookended by a pair of four-run frames. Indy plated its second run of the game on an eighth-inning RBI groundout by Canaan Smith-Njigba before Toledo tacked on a pair in its following plate appearance to make it 13-2. Rony GarcÌa earned the win with 2.0 relief innings.

HANK TANK: Henry Davis launched a solo home run 407 feet at 106 MPH off the bat in the first inning of last night's contest in the first game of his rehab assignment. Davis, 23, was placed on the 10-day injured list with a right hand strain on Aug. 21. In 51 games with Pittsburgh since making his major league debut vs. Chicago (NL) on June 19, he hit .213 (39-for-183) with eight doubles, five home runs and 18 RBI. The catcher-turned-outfielder was promoted from Double-A Altoona to Indianapolis for his Triple-A debut on June 6 and hit .286 (10-for-35) with five extra-base hits, a .432 on-base percentage and .946 OPS in 10 games before having his contract selected by Pittsburgh.

KRANICK DIALS: Max Kranick posted 2.0 scoreless frames last night with his only blemish coming on a one-out walk in the second inning. His 34 pitches - 21 for strikes - were his most in an outing since throwing 44 pitches on Aug. 25, vs. Iowa. The 26-year-old began the season on the 60-day injured list after undergoing Tommy John surgery on June 3, 2022. He made two rehab starts with Indianapolis before being optioned late last week. He went 0-1 with a 6.75 ERA (3er/4.0ip) with five strikeouts. Kranick is 0-1 with a 4.05 ERA (3er/6.2ip) in four outings with Indianapolis.

GORSKI DOUBLES: Former Indiana Hoosier and Fishers, Ind. native Matt Gorski got off to a quick start in his first three games with Indianapolis this season. The center fielder is 4-for-11 with three of his hits being doubles. The 25-year-old went 2-for-4 with a double to lead the team in hits. Gorski joins Indy from Altoona where he played in 93 games and hit .238 (85-for-357) with 56 runs scored, 16 doubles, two triples, 17 homers, .437 slugging percentage and a .733 OPS. The 25-year-old leads Altoona's full-season qualifiers in home runs, RBI, slugging percentage, OPS, extra-base hits (35) and total bases (156). Gorski played in one game with Indianapolis last season on Sept. 22, before being placed on the 7-day injured list for the remainder of the season.

BISS SHOVES: After left-hander Braeden Ogle exited the game with an out and a runner on in the ninth, infielder Josh Bissonette came in to pitch. Bissonette induced an inning-ending 6-3 double play on his second pitch of the inning to Tigers No. 9 prospect Justyn-Henry Malloy, according to MLB Pipeline. He became the first Indians position player to pitch in a game Christian Bethancourt on Sept. 30, 2021, vs. Nashville.

GONZO'S SCORCHING HOT: Nick Gonzales belted his third home run in his last five games on Friday. Gonzales has scored a run in five of his last six games, including a career-high tying four runs scored on Tuesday. Since Sunday's series finale at Buffalo, he is hitting .444 (8-for-18) with eight runs four extra-base hits, a .545 on-base percentage and 1.601 OPS. The 24-year-old has responded well since being optioned by Pittsburgh on Aug. 3, hitting .292 (31-for-106) with 20 runs scored, seven doubles, a triple, five home runs and 11 RBI in 29 games.

CSN SWIPES: Canaan Smith-Njigba drove in his eighth RBI of the month, which is tied for the ninth-most RBI in the International League this month. Smith-Njigba is hitting .375 (9-for-24) with two runs scored, three doubles, eight RBI, three walks .944 OPS in eight games in September. The lefty slugger is 8-for-17 with two doubles, seven RBI and three stolen bases against Toledo this week. His three stolen bases this week brings him to a team-leading 18 stolen bases this season. Since Aug. 12, he is hitting .295 (26-for-88) with four doubles, three home runs and 19 RBI in 24 games. His 19 RBI during that span is tied for the 10th-most in the International League.

TODAY: The Indians and Mud Hens conclude their final six-game set of the season on Sunday afternoon at Victory Field at 1:35 PM ET. The Mud Hens earned a victory on Saturday night, cutting Indy's series lead to 3-2. Indy can win its ninth series victory of the season and third against Toledo with a win on Sunday. Today, RHP Wil Crowe (1-0, 3.95) will take the mound for Indianapolis against Toledo's RHP Bryan Sammons (0-3, 6.70). Crowe has never faced the Mud Hens.

CROWE TAKES THE HILL: Wil Crowe will take the mound to open Sunday's series finale vs. Toledo. Crowe makes his first start of the season with Indianapolis after making 11 appearances. The right-hander is 1-0 with a 3.95 ERA (6er/13.2ip) with 16 hits allowed, eight walks allowed and 21 strikeouts. Crowe began the season with Pittsburgh, appearing in five games and going 0-1 with a 4.66 ERA (5er/9.2ip), nine strikeouts and 1.86 WHIP before being placed on the 15-day injured list on April 26 (retroactive to April 23) with right shoulder discomfort. Crowe joined Indianapolis on a rehab assignment on Aug. 14, making two appearances before being outrighted by Pittsburgh on Aug. 19.

THIS DATE IN 1996: After finishing six games behind Buffalo in the Eastern Division behind first-year skipper Dave Miley, the Indians eliminated the Bisons 3 games to 2 in a best-of-five semifinal series to advance to the championship vs. Oklahoma City. Indy put up three runs in the second inning, highlighted by a Mike Kelly two-run blast, and never looked back, winning Game 5 on the road, 4-1. The Indians won the first two games of the series at Victory Field, 5-2 and 5-3.
