Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release
Buffalo, New York - The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (74-62, 38-25) fell 6-3 to the Buffalo Bisons (69-66, 35-25) on Sunday night at Sahlen Field to split the series on the week, three games apiece.
After a scoreless first two innings, Buffalo made a big first statement with two outs in the third. With two outs and nobody on, Buffalo strung together three straight baserunners to load the bases. That set the table for Damiano Palmegiani who slugged a grand slam to give Buffalo a 4-0 lead.
The IronPigs got a run back in the fourth. Kody Clemens doubled to open the inning, moved to third on a flyout, and scored on a Darick Hall flyout.
In the sixth, the IronPigs moved to within a run. Clemens tripled with one out and Weston Wilson followed with a double to plate him. One out later, Dustin Peterson doubled in Wilson to make it a 4-3 game.
That was as close as the IronPigs would get. Rafael Lantigua drilled a two-run double in the eighth for two key insurance runs for the Bisons, closing the score at 6-3.
Andrew Bash (4-1) collected the win for Buffalo. Bash went five innings, allowing just a run on three hits and a walk, striking out four.
Drew Hutchison (4-4) took the loss for the IronPigs. Hutchison allowed four runs on six hits and five walks, striking out four over five innings.
Rowan Wick (S, 4) fired a perfect ninth to convert the save for the Bisons, striking out one.
Following an off-day on Monday, the IronPigs continue their 12-game road trip on Tuesday, September 12 when they head to Rochester to face off against the Red Wings. First pitch is slated for 6:05 p.m. from Innovative Field.
