2-1 Utah Lead Goes By Board In Victoria

Victoria, British Columbia - The Utah Grizzlies were unable to hold a 2-1 second period lead and fell 6-3 to Victoria Thursday night.

Brad Herauf gave Utah a 2-1 lead with two goals in the first 3:48 of the second period. Victoria rallied to tie and take a 3-2 lead into the second intermission.

In the third, Victoria scored two goals in the first 2:42 of the period to take a 5-2 lead before Jimmie Kraft tallied a shorthanded goal at 6:14 of the period to make the score 5-3. Utah had two power-plays in the third with a chance to cut the deficit to one but was unable to convert. Victoria added a power-play goal in the final minutes to make the score 6-3.

Utah went 0-7 on the power-play and had nearly 1:56 on the 5-on-3 power-play to finish the first period.

James Sanford made his Utah debut and picked up an assist after being acquired from Texas prior to last week's ECHL trade deadline. Prior to reporting to Utah, he had been with the AHL's Milwaukee Admirals.

With Bakersfield defeating Phoenix 4-3 Thursday, Utah remains six points out of a playoff spot entering the weekend with 11 games remaining.

The Grizzlies and Salmon Kings meet again Saturday and Sunday from Victoria. Face-off Saturday is scheduled for 8:05 p.m., with Sunday being a 2:05 p.m. tilt.

Utah returns home to the E-Center to open a six-game home stand Thursday, Friday and Saturday of next week with Stockton. All remaining Utah home games start at 7:05 p.m.
