Dayton Bombers News Release

Dayton, OH- The Dayton Bombers were defeated by the Reading Royals 4-3 on Friday night at the Ervin J. Nutter Center.

Reading took the early 1-0 lead when Joe Zappala finished off a give and go pass by tapping one in behind Bombers starter Terry Denike (15 saves Loss) at the 3:53 mark. Jon Francisco made it 2-0 Royals later in the first period at the 10:47 mark. The Bombers had a number of scoring chances but couldn't get one in, until late in the period. Brent Walton (20) redirected a shot from the point by Lane Manson right past Royals starter Jeff Pietrasiak (25 saves Win) to cut the lead to 2-1 on the power play at the 17:16 mark. The Bombers trailed 2-1 after one.

The Royals again in the second period jumped out early on the Bombers and pushed the lead to

3-1 at the 3:14 mark when Chris Bala dove across the ice to slide a rebound with his stick past Denike. The Bombers answered back just over nine minutes later. Rookie Petr Pohl (8) launched a perfect one timer over Pietrasiak and under the crossbar to make it 2-1 at the 12:34 mark. Reading held the Bombers to only six shots on goal in the second and the Royals took a 3-2 lead to the locker room after 40 minutes of play.

For the time in as many periods, the Royals pushed their lead back to two goals when leading scorer Brett Smith batted the puck out of the air with his stick on the power play to make it 4-2 at the 5:19 mark. The goal by Smith was allowed, although it could have been called back for high sticking, but the official felt like his stick was below the cross bar and so the goal stood as good. Trailing by two goals with less than two minutes remaining, the Bombers pulled Denike and with the extra attacker brought the deficit back down to one. Justin Maiser (16) beat Pietrasiak through the five-hole with a quick release off the left wing circle to cut the lead to 4-3 at the 19:35 mark, but the Bombers ran out of time and couldn't tie up the game, allowing the Royals to take the 4-3 victory.

Despite the loss, the Bombers remain in second place in the North Division (31-21-6 68 points), only three points behind the Cincinnati Cyclones for first place. But the Division is getting tighter by the minute, with the victory the Royals move into fourth place, only four points out of second and Toledo is only one point behind the Bombers and four points in back of the Cyclones in third place.
