South Carolina Stingrays News Release
NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. - Ernie Hartlieb scored twice to lift Florida Everblades past the South Carolina Stingrays 5-1 in front of 4,895 fans at the North Charleston Coliseum.
"That was a frustrating game," South Carolina coach Jason Fitzsimmons said. "We got rattled after the fourth Florida goal and never recovered. We're an emotional team right now in a tight playoff run. We travel all night by bus and try to bounce back tomorrow at Pensacola."
South Carolina (32-24-7, 71 points) got rolling on the power play in the first period at the 5:10 mark. Brendan Bernakevitch blasted a shot from the slot through traffic past goaltender Jamie Holden for his 17th tally of the season. Assists went to Evan Schwabe, who extended his assist streak to five games, and Cail MacLean.
Florida (38-19-5, 81 points) evened the score at 1-1, as Hartlieb deposited his fourth of the campaign beating netminder Davis Parley from Brad Zacanaro and Ryan Brindley at 6:28.
The Everblades took the lead at 11:49. Adam Taylor notched his 20th of the year from Martin Tuma.
Then Florida made it 3-1, as Hartlieb converted on a centering pass for his second of the game. Zancanaro and Reggie Berg garnered helpers at 16:10.
On a 4-on-4 situation in the second, Jonathan Lehun netted his 20th of the season, just 27 seconds in, to give the Everblades a commanding 4-1 lead.
At 11:14 of the second, Stingrays' Viktor Dovgan went down just inside the Florida blue line. After a 10-minute delay, Dovgan had to be taken off on a stretcher to a nearby hospital. There are no further details on his injury.
Jarret Lukin completed the scoring with the man advantage for Florida by potting his sixth of the year at 11:36 of the third. Vince Bellissimo and Taylor collected assists.
South Carolina converted on 1-of-11 chances with the power play, while Florida went 1-for-9. Everblades outshot the Stingrays 27-24.
The Stingrays take to the road for an 8:05 p.m. ET game against the Pensacola Ice Pilots at the Pensacola Civic Center.
