Florida Everblades News Release
CHARLESTON, SC - The Florida Everblades (38-19-5) picked up a pair of goals from Ernie Hartlieb and collected 23 saves from Jamie Holden as they finished off the season series with the South Carolina Stingrays (32-24-7) with a 5-1 win. The Everblades improved to 6-3-1 vs. the Stingrays this season with the victory on Friday at the North Charleston Coliseum in front of a crowd of 4,895. A fast-paced first period saw the Everblades tally three goals en-route to opening a two goal advantage after the first 20 minutes of play. The Stingrays opened the scoring by chipping in a power play goal by Brendan Bernakevich at 5:10 of the period. The Everblades however responded by scoring the game's next three goals. Ernie Hartlieb tied the game at one just 1:18 after South Carolina took the lead by stoking home a rebound from the top of the crease at 6:28. Ryan Brindley and Brad Zancanaro assisted on Hartlieb's fourth goal of the season. The Everblades grabbed the lead at 11:49 when Adam Taylor fired a wrist shot form the left circle over the glove of Stingrays net minder Davis Parley. Martin Tuma collected the lone assist on Taylor's 20th goal of the season.
Hartlieb then increased the Everblade lead to 3-1 when the puck ricocheted off him and past Parley at 16:10 for his second goal of the game and fifth of the season. Zancanaro and Reggie Berg collected the assists on the tally.
As the second period started, the Everblades added to their lead just 27 seconds in when Dustin Johner's shot was stopped by Parley, but the rebound kicked off Jon Lehun's leg and into the net. The goal was Lehun's 20th of the season and gave Florida a 4-1 advantage. Midway through the period a silence fell over the crowd as Stingrays defenseman Victor Dovgan fell to the ice after a collision with Reggie Berg and had to be taken off the ice on a stretcher. When play continued, penalties dominated with the teams combining for eight power play chances but neither team able to add to their total.
In the third period the Everblades tacked on one final goal when Jarret Lukin poked home his sixth goal of the season with the Everblades enjoying a power play. Taylor and Vince Bellissimo assisted on the goal. From there Holden held off the Stingrays by turning away all eight shots he faced in the period.
Holden earned his first win as an Everblade to improve to 1-1-0, while Parley took the loss by allowing the five goals on 27 shots.
On the power play, the Everblades finished the game 1-for-9, while the Stingrays closed out the game 1-for-11.
