CROSSTOWN FACE-OFF / WET WEDNESDAY
TONIGHT'S MATCHUP: After earning their most lopsided win of the season last night against Evansville, the Cyclones wrap up their weekend by traveling up I-75 to meet the Toledo Walleye for the fourth of eight regular season meetings. Jarrod Skalde's team earned a 4-2 win over the Fish last Friday night in downtown Toledo and have improved their all-time record against their Buckeye State rivals to 27-27-2-1 since 2006. In Northwest Ohio, they've posted a 14-15-1-0 record in the same span.
SCOUTING THE WALLEYE: Nick Vitucci's club has been one of the ECHL's hottest teams over the last month, posting three straight wins and eight of their last ten games. Willie Coetzee remains atop the Walleye's scoring leader board with 18 points (8 goals, 10 assists) in 20 games this season - four of those tallies coming against Cincinnati. Ben Youds, who ranks fourth on the team with 14 points (3 goals, 11 assists) has also found success against Cincinnati in the early going - putting up a pair of goals and an assist in the first three match-ups. Jordan Pearce and Kent Simpson have shared the goaltending duties of late; Pearce is 6-1-0 this season with a 2.29 goals-against average while Simpson has earned a 4-5-0-1 record in 2012-13 with a 2.50 GAA. Against the Cyclones this year, Simpson is 1-1-0 with a 2.98 GAA; Pearce is 1-0 with a 2.00 GAA.
About Last Night vs. Evansville: The Cyclones got out to a fast start and never looked back as they took down the IceMen by a final score of 6-1 in front of 4,705 at U.S. Bank Arena. Rookie John McFarland had his first professional hat trick in the victory. It was the fourth straight win for the Cyclones.
At Home on the Road: Although they will only play one game this week away from U.S. Bank Arena, the Clones have enjoyed great success out of the Queen City. They are 5-1-2-0 in road games this year - which is tied for the fewest regulation losses in the ECHL.
Powerful "Pelly": Mike Pelech enjoyed his best offensive night of the year last night, posting four assists in the win over Evansville. It was his fourth multi-point effort of the season and extended his point-scoring streak to six games.
