The West Virginia Power lost a 4-3 final in extras to the Lakewood BlueClaws Sunday afternoon. The Power tied the game with a run in the bottom of the ninth, but ultimately fell in thirteen innings.

Lakewood scored their first three runs six batters in to the opening frame. The first four hitters reached to start the game against Gage Hinsz on three singles and a hit by pitch, the last of which was a two-RBI single by Damek Tomscha. Deivi Grullon hit a sacrifice fly to cap the scoring and put the 'Claws up 3-0.

Those were the only runs allowed by Hinsz in seven innings, along with five hits while he struck out two and walked one.

The Power began to inch their way back in the third. John Bormann led off the inning with a double and came around to score on a Casey Hughston sacrifice fly.

Logan Hill brought the Power to within a run with a long home run over top of the left center field wall.

Lakewood starter Jose Taveras allowed two runs on six hits in his seven innings of work.

For the second straight night, with the club down a run in the ninth inning the Power came back to tie it. After back-to-back singles and a one out intentional walk loaded the bases, Stephen Alemais hit a sacrifice fly to right to drive home Mitchell Tolman and tie the game 3-3. Reliever Blake Quinn was pinned with his first blown save of the season.

That sent the game into extras and it would remain tied until the 13th inning when Lakewood broke through against reliever Seth McGarry. With Cornelius Randolph at second after reaching on a single, Damek Tomscha picked up the go-ahead RBI single to center to give the 'Claws a 4-3 edge.

The Power got the first two runners aboard to start the bottom of the inning, however reliever Scott Harris was able to retire the side without a run crossing to notch his first save and cement the series win for the 'Claws.

McGarry (4-3) takes the loss after surrendering the eventual game-winning run in his lone inning, while Ismael Cabrera (2-1) picked up the win with three scoreless relief innings.

Hill, Tolman and John Bormann each finished with a pair of hits to pace the Power attack.

After an off-day Monday, West Virginia takes its final road trip of the year as they head to Columbia, South Carolina for a three-game series with the Fireflies. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 P.M. at Spirit Communications Park.

Second Half Record:

32-31

Overall Record:

67-65
