Tourists Unable to Hold Lead; Fall 8-4
August 28, 2016 - South Atlantic League (SAL1)
Asheville Tourists News Release
GREENVILLE, SC-- The Asheville Tourists jumped out to a 4-1 lead on Saturday night; however, the Greenville Drive scored the game's last seven runs en route to an 8-4 win over Asheville. The series is now even at one game apiece with the rubber match set for Sunday afternoon.
Greenville accomplished a rare feat in the win. The Drive put their lead-off man on base with either a hit or a walk in every inning. That meant Asheville's pitchers were constantly trying to work out of trouble. Each team scored one in the first inning with the Tourists' run coming on a Mylz Jones RBI single. Brian Mundell scored on the hit after recording his 57th double of the year.
The Tourists added a run in the second, the third, and the fourth to take the 4-1 lead. The Drive slowly chipped away and eventually took control. Greenville plated one in the fourth and another in the fifth. In the sixth, the Tourists loaded the bases with no outs but came away empty handed. The Drive plated two in the sixth to take the lead.
Greenville added three more in the seventh and Asheville did not threaten late. The Tourists finished with ten hits but Asheville's pitching staff issued six walks to go along with the Drive's 11 hits.
Sam Hilliard hit his 16th Home Run in the loss while Jones added his 22nd double. Eric Toole, playing in his first game with the Tourists, finished 1-for-4; recording his first South Atlantic League hit in the sixth inning.
