Killian, Bullpen Combine to One-Hit Drive
August 28, 2016 - South Atlantic League (SAL1)
Asheville Tourists News Release
The Asheville Tourists ended their 2016 road slate in style on Sunday afternoon. Trey Killian, Cristian Quintin, Ben Bowden, and Sam Thoele combined to limit the Greenville Drive to one run on just one hit in Asheville's 5-1 series clinching victory.
Killian and Greenville's Roniel Raudes each started the game on fire. Killian retired the first ten batters he faced while Raudes surrendered one hit through three innings. The Drive went to reliever Austin Glorius in the fourth and Asheville managed to strike first.
Eric Toole, playing in his second game as a Tourist, delivered with an RBI double. The two-out base hit plated Sam Hilliard and put Asheville in front 1-0. After Killian retired the first two batters in the bottom of the fifth, Carlos Herrera committed a throwing error. The next batter, J.T. Watkins, grounded a single to center and scored the runner. Watkins' hit was the only of the game for the Drive.
Killian finished with six innings pitched, one hit, one unearned run, and matched a season-high with ten strikeouts. The performance earned the right-hander his 11th victory of the season.
Hilliard and the Tourists answered in the top of the sixth. The outfielder clubbed a two-run single into left field that capped a two-out rally off Glorius. Brendan Rodgers added a sacrifice fly in the seventh and Max George rounded out the scoring with a solo Home Run in the eighth.
