ABOUT LAST GAME: The Fireflies thumped the Intimidators, 10-6, in the middle game of the series on Saturday night. A seven-run third inning fueled the Columbia victory.
GOOD THINGS HAPPEN IN THREES: Here are some of the numbers from the monstrous third frame. 12 batters came to the plate 7 runs scored 6 hits (including two doubles and a triple) Kannapolis used two different pitchers Tucker Tharp had two hits in the inning
BURDICK STAYS HOT: Infielder Dale Burdick picked up two more hits on Saturday night, including a deep triple to center field. The Spring Hill, Tennessee native, has slugged an extra-base hit in four straight games. Also, in four of his last five games played, Burdick has muscled out a two-hit performance.
LIGHTS OUT BULLPEN: Columbia's relief staff has been brilliant lately. The bullpen has lowered its season ERA to an even 3.00 and has gone five straight games without allowing an earned run. Even more impressive, over their last ten games, Fireflies relievers have allowed just four earned runs in 33 innings (1.09 ERA).
WHAT'S AT STAKE: With a win on Sunday, the Fireflies would take their third consecutive series for the first time since late April. A victory over Kannapolis would give Columbia its eighth win over its last 10 contests, as well.
THE OTHER GUYS: Intimidators' righty Luis Martinez makes his 27th start of the season on Sunday. To this date, that's the most of any hurler in the South Atlantic League this year. Martinez also ranks fifth in the league in strikeouts with 132.
