Shorebirds top Legends, 6-2

A four-run second inning sent the Delmarva Shorebirds on their way to a 6-2 win over the Lexington Legends Saturday night in Salisbury, Maryland. Delmarva starter Reid Love and relievers Robert Strader and Christian Turnipseed limited the Legends to five hits.

Alex Murphy and Ademar Rifaela started the second inning with singles. He moved to third on a single by Ronarsy Ledesma, and after Gerrion Grim struck out, Drew Turbin singled, scoring Laurino and sending Ledesma to third. Ledesma came home on a single by Cedric Mullins, and Turbin scored on an infield hit by Ricardo Andujar.

A two-run homer by Rifaela in the third inning gave Delmarva a 6-0 lead.

The Legends got on the board in the fifth on a run-scoring double by Ben Johnson, and they added a run in the ninth on singles by Chase Vallot and Xavier Fernandez and a sacrifice fly by Colton Frabasilio.

Love (8-10) worked the first six innings and got the win. He allowed three hits and one run. Strader, a former University of Louisville star, pitched two and one-third innings and did not allow a hit. Turnipseed got the last two outs of the game.

Legends starter A.J. Puckett (1-3) was the losing pitcher. He allowed nine hits and six runs in three innings. Franco Terrero, who relieved Puckett at the start of the fourth inning, pitched four shutout innings and gave up two hits. Matt Ditman worked a scoreless eighth inning.
