Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release

CHARLESTON, WV - Daniel Arribas capped a West Virginia comeback with a 10th inning RBI single to score pinch-runner Tyler Filliben as the Power ended Lakewood's eight-game winning streak with a 5-4 win on Saturday night at Appalachian Power Park.

The BlueClaws had a 4-0 lead before West Virginia scored three in the eighth off Edgar Garcia, including two on a Casey Hughston home run and one on an RBI single by Carlos Munoz to make it a 4-3 game. They then tied the game off Sutter McLoughlin, the first earned run he's allowed since July 23rd, on a John Bormann SAC fly in the ninth. Bormann drove home Stefan Alemais, who tripled on the first pitch of the ninth inning.

Then in the 10th, Carlos Munoz doubled with two outs. Filliben was inserted as the pinch-runner and scored on the RBI single by Arribas.

McLoughlin (1-3) took the loss, allowing two runs. He had allowed just four runs in 27 innings in the second half prior to Saturday night.

The loss ends Lakewood's winning streak at eight games, a franchise record. They are now 38-24/67-64 on the year. Coupled with Hagerstown's win, the BlueClaws are now three games ahead with eight games left. Their magic number remains at six.

The loss for Lakewood was just their second all year in which they led after the 8th inning (55-2).

Julio Vivas (3-0) threw three scoreless innings in relief to earn the win for West Virginia (31-31/66-65).

The BlueClaws opened the scoring in the fourth inning with three runs. The first, Deivi Grullon, came home on a Bret Helton wild pitch. Two batters later, Emmanuel Marrero executed a perfect safety squeeze to bring home Jan Hernandez. Mark Laird followed with an RBI single to bring home Edgar Cabral for a 3-0 lead.

Laird's RBI single extended his hitting streak to 10 games, over which he is now 17-39.

Jan Hernandez homered off Helton in the fifth inning. It was Hernandez's 10th home run of the season and third of the week after he went deep twice in a Tuesday win over Greensboro.

Lakewood starter Franklyn Kilome, who did not factor in the decision, did not allow a run in seven innings and bounced back well from his previous start when he allowed four runs in 2/3 of an inning on Sunday at Delmarva.

Cornelius Randolph, Deivi Grullon, Jan Hernandez, and Edgar Cabral all had two hits for Lakewood while Carlos Munoz had four hits in the win for West Virginia.

The series with West Virginia wraps up on Sunday afternoon. RHP Jose Taveras (7-8) starts for Lakewood against RHP Gage Hinsz (5-8) for West Virginia.
