Greenville Drive News Release
Greenville, SC - After falling behind early, the Greenville Drive staged a comeback in the middle innings and came away with an 8-4 win over the Asheville Tourists on Saturday night at Fluor Field.
Trailing 4-1 after three and a half innings, the Drive (31-31, 68-63) began to make their move in the bottom of the fourth, as Kyri Washington drew a walk and later scored on Austin Rei's groundout. In the fifth, a Tourists (29-32, 63-67) error cut their lead to 4-3.
The sixth inning saw the Drive take the lead for good. Roldani Baldwin's fielder's choice groundout plated Tyler Spoon, who singled to begin the frame, and Luis Alexander Basabe delivered an RBI single to make the score 5-4 in favor of the Drive.
The comeback made a winner out of Adam Lau (3-2), who struck out three over two scoreless relief innings. Daniel Koger (0-2) was saddled with the loss for Asheville.
The Tourists scored in each of the first four innings against Logan Boyd. Mylz Jones hit an RBI single in the first to score Brian Mundell, and a solo homer by Sam Hilliard leading off the second made the score 2-0.
Jones delivered another RBI hit, this one a double, in the third, and Carlos Herrera's pop fly in the fourth was lost in the lights and plated the fourth run.
The Drive countered Asheville's run in the first with one of their own, as Basabe smacked a leadoff single and later came home on a double play.
Basabe went 2-5 with two RBI for the Drive. Mitchell Gunsolus reached base four times with two hits and two walks, and Austin Rei picked up a pair of hits as well.
The rubber game of the series begins at 4:05 PM on Sunday afternoon at Fluor Field. The Drive will give right-hander Roniel Raudes (11-5, 3.73) the ball in the finale, and the Tourists will start right-hander Trey Killian (10-6, 4.12).
