Charleston RiverDogs News Release
HICKORY, NC - Jhalan Jackson collected a career-high five hits while reeling in four RBIs, and Charleston RiverDogs pitching kept the Crawdads hitless after the first as the RiverDogs bats ripped out 16 hits in an 11-2 victory over the Crawdads on Saturday night at L.P. Frans Stadium.
Jackson smashed his 10th home run of the year for his fourth hit of the night, a two out solo shot in the eighth that pushed the RiverDogs' lead out to 5-2 before Charleston would bat around in the ninth to give the right fielder a shot at his first career five-hit night. The Tampa, FL native would finish going 5-for-6 and a triple shy of the cycle.
With the bases loaded in the ninth, Hoy Jun Park slapped a single to left to score Ricardo Ferreira to make it 6-2. Alex Palma next followed with a walk to push the second run of the inning across before Jackson roped a double down the left field line to score a pair. Third baseman Mandy Alvarez finished things off with his first hit of the night, a two RBI single to right that made it 11-2 RiverDogs. All six runs would go unearned against Hickory righty Omarlin Lopez due to an error that extended the inning.
It was just the second time a RiverDogs hitter collected five hits this season with Jeff Hendrix the only other player to accomplish the feat when he went 5-for-5 on June 1 at Greenville.
Charleston struck first in the opening frame, jumping on starter Emerson Martinez (0-5, 3.58) for a pair of early runs. RiverDogs second baseman Kyle Holder doubled to left center on the first pitch of the ballgame before Park singled him home and advanced to second on a misplayed ball in center. Two batters later, Jackson collected his first hit on an RBI single to left that made it 2-0 Charleston.
Hickory pushed across both of their runs in the second, but that would be all for the Crawdads offense who were held hitless over the final eight frames.
Former Rangers prospect Nick Green (3-0, 1.06) was steady after the first, striking out four with a pair of walks to pick up his third consecutive win in as many starts with the RiverDogs. Anyelo Gomez and Andrew Schwaab took it the rest of the way with four shutout innings.
