THE LEAD OFF: West Virginia lost 7-1 to Kannapolis in the series opener on Monday. The Intimidators took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first on a Trey Michalczewski home run off Justin Topa after a pair of singles. West Virginia plated a run in the fourth on an infield single by Elvis Escobar. Kannapolis extended their lead by four over the seventh and eighth innings after reliever Andrew Mitchell limited the Power to just one hit and two walks from the fifth through eighth innings. Mitchell earned the win while Topa was charged with the loss.

TWO HONORED WITH SAL ASG PICKS: The South Atlantic League has announced the rosters for the 55th annual league All-Star Game. Catcher Reese McGuire and infielder Erich Weiss have been selected by managers, media and front office staff from across the league to represent the Power in the mid-season classic, to be held at Hickory's L.P. Frans Stadium on Tuesday, June 17. McGuire is batting .283 and is one of the best defensive catchers in the league while Weiss has the seventh best in the league at .323. Both players were selected as reserves.

MCGUIRE HALTED AT 19: Reese McGuire's hitting streak was stopped at 19 games after going hitless in four at bats on Monday. The 19-year-old's streak was the second longest by any player in the league this season and trailed only Starling Marte's 22 game run in 2009 as the longest by a Power player during the Pirates affiliation. McGuire's streak started on May 7 and the catcher had 27 hits over 77 at bats during the streak, a .351 clip, and raised his average from .219 to .291 during the streak.

ROUGH FROM THE START: The Power have allowed 265 runs this season, 43 of which have been surrendered in the first inning. West Virginia's opposition has also excelled in the seventh inning, scoring 37 times over 55 combined seventh innings this season. Offensively, the Power's best inning is the sixth with 35 of 232 runs scored this season.

STRIVE FOR MORE: West Virginia has 13 games remaining in the first half of the 2014 season. The franchise record for fewest wins in one half of a season is 23, set in the 2012 season under manager Rick Sofield. The inaugural club won 25 games in the first half. The club record for wins in any half of any season is 48, set in the first half of the 2008 campaign.

FEAR FACTOR: The Power host the Kannapolis Intimidators for a three games series for the second time this season. Kannapolis swept a set in April; the first three games of a franchise record 11 game home losing streak. West Virginia has, however, beaten the Intimidators four times in six games at CMC-NorthEast Stadium in North Carolina. The Power lead the all-time series 52-50, though the Intimidators have a 26-23 edge in Charleston.

IRON MEN: Jacoby Jones, Delmarva's Trey Mancini and Hagerstown's Wilmer Difo have played 56 games this season, more than other player in the league. Erich Weiss is in a group of four who have played 55 games, while Wyatt Mathisen is in a group of seven who have played in 54 games this year.

PROMO UPDATE- JUNE 14: West Virginia welcomes Delmarva on June 14 at 7:05 pm. The club will celebrate Chuck, the Power mascot, and his birthday. 100 bikes will be given away to kids 12 and under. The Pittsburgh Pirate Parrot will also make an appearance to entertain fans.

POWER POINTS: Austin Meadows was promoted to the West Virginia roster from Jamestown on Saturday and placed on the Power Disabled List. The outfielder has not played this season due to a left hamstring injury... Former Power outfielder Mel Rojas, Jr. made his Triple-A debut on Saturday, serving as the designated hitter for the Indianapolis Indians... Justin Maffei is batting .333 with nine hits over 27 at bats during his current six game hitting streak, dating back to May 26. It is Maffei's second streak this season of six games or more with at least one hit.

AROUND THE ORGANIZATION: Pittsburgh pummelled San Diego 10-3. Pirate hitters saw 249 pitches in the game... Indianapolis was tripped 7-3 by Scranton/ Wilkes-Barre... Altoona was idle Monday and hosts Binghamton tonight... Bradenton blanked Clearwater 5-0 with Tyler Glasnow going five scoreless to start.

ON THE AIR: West Virginia Power games can be heard on Charleston's ESPN 104.5 FM and 1490 AM in Charleston, online at wvpower.com and on the TuneIn Radio App. Adam Marco will call the action for all 140 games and will be joined by Jake Corrigan when the team plays at Appalachian Power Park.
