Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release
KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (June 3, 2014) - The South Atlantic League has announced the rosters for the 55th Annual SAL All-Star Game, and the Kannapolis Intimidators will be represented on the field by right-handed pitcher Jake Sanchez on the Northern Division squad. The 2014 SAL All-Star Game will take place on Tuesday, June 17, at L.P. Frans Stadium in Hickory, N.C.
Sanchez, the lone Intimidators' representative in the All-Star Game, is 5-3 with a 3.00 ERA in 13 games (seven starts) for Kannapolis. He opened the season as the Intimidators closer, converting on all three of his save opportunities, before moving into the rotation on April 25 with 6.0 shut out innings and a career-high 10 strikeouts at Rome. Sanchez, 24, is coming off his first career complete game, working all 7.0 innings of Sunday's doubleheader against Hagerstown, limiting the Suns to one run to earn his team-leading fifth win. He ranks tied for fourth in the league with 58 strikeouts.
The White Sox signed Sanchez last June out of the independent Frontier League and assigned him to the Advanced Rookie Great Falls Voyagers where he went on to win 2013 Pioneer League Pitcher of the Year honors, going 6-3 with a 2.87 ERA in 14 games (14 starts). He led the Pioneer League in ERA, strikeouts (78) and opponent average (.230) while ranking third in innings pitched (81.2) in 2013. Prior to signing with the Sox, Sanchez pitched for the independent Joliet Slammers in 2012 after graduating from Iowa Wesleyan. He attended Brawley Union (Calif.) High School where he played four years of baseball, three years of basketball and a year of football.
The Kannapolis Intimidators are in the 20th season of professional baseball in Kannapolis and the team's 14th as the Class A Affiliate of the Chicago White Sox. Since the team moved to Kannapolis in 1995, 77 players that have played in Kannapolis have gone on to the Major Leagues. This year's team is managed by Pete Rose Jr. CMC-NorthEast Stadium is located off I-85 at exit 63.
