Four BlueClaws Headed to SAL All-Star Game

LAKEWOOD, NJ - JP Crawford, Willians Astudillo, Samuel Hiciano, and Cody Forsythe will represent the BlueClaws in the 55th Annual South Atlantic League All-Star Game which takes place in Hickory, North Carolina on Tuesday, June 17th.

Crawford received the most votes of any of the 52 players selected to play in the game.

Crawford, a 19-year old from Lakewood, California, was the Phillies first-round pick (16th overall) last year. He ranks ninth in the league in hitting at .320 and fifth in on-base percentage at .417. He also leads the BlueClaws in steals (nine) and walks (28). Crawford had a 13-game hitting streak from April 27 through May 12th. He played the final two weeks of 2013 with Lakewood, when he became the first high school draftee to ever play for the BlueClaws in the year he was drafted.

Astudillo, a 22-year old from Barcelona, Venezuela, is third in the league in hitting at .341 and has added two home runs and 22 RBIs. He has two hitting streaks of at least 12 games (and a 17-game hitting streak active through June 2nd). He is also the league's toughest hitter to strike out, having fanned nine times, or once every 21.6 plate appearances.

Hiciano, a 20 year old from Moca, Dominican Republic, is hitting .273 with six home runs and 23 RBIs. He is hitting .317 since April 26th, when he hit his first home run. Hiciano hit seven home runs last year with Williamsport in the NY-Penn League.

Forsythe, a 23 year old from Calvert City, Kentucky, has eight saves, ranking him fourth in the league. He is 2-0 with a 1.83 ERA having struck out 18 hitters in 19.2 innings pitched. In three of his eight saves, he entered the game with the tying run on base. Forsythe was drafted in the 23rd round of the 2013 draft from Southern Illinois University.

The BlueClaws had four represntatives last year, when they hosted the game, and have now had 48 in their 14 years of play.

The South Atlantic League All-Star Game, which dates to 1960, will be held at Hickory's LP Frans Stadium for the second time, and first since 1994 when the National League All-Stars defeated the American League All-Stars 9-5.
