Delmarva Shorebirds News Release
Salisbury, MD - The South Atlantic League announced the rosters to its 55th annual All-Star Game, and five Shorebirds have been named to the midseason showcase. Representing Delmarva at L.P. Frans Stadium in Hickory, North Carolina will be Hunter Harvey, Drew Dosch, Mike Yastrzemski, Sebastian Vader and Jimmy Yacabonis. It is the most All-Star selections for the Shorebirds since Delmarva sent five players to the 2011 All-Star Game, hosted at Perdue Stadium.
Hunter Harvey will be the starting pitcher for the Northern Division squad. The Orioles' 1st round pick last year has had a sensational start to his professional career. With Delmarva, Harvey has posted a 3-3 record with a 1.68 ERA through his first 10 starts. Harvey currently ranks third in the league in ERA, second in strikeouts with 64, second in WHIP at 0.95. The right-hander also leads the league in opponents' batting average, as opposing hitters are batting just .170 off the Shorebirds' ace. In his Shorebirds debut, Harvey notched his first win in his professional career with six scoreless innings at Asheville on April 5th.
Joining Harvey among the Northern Division starters, third baseman Drew Dosch and right fielder Mike Yastrzemski have also been named to the team. Dosch will be the starting third baseman, as he has been a consistent force in the Shorebirds' lineup. The Ohio native is batting .316 through 54 games with nine doubles and three home runs. On April 16th, Dosch delivered a game-winning walkoff RBI single in the 15th inning for a 1-0 win over Hagerstown.
Mike Yastrzemski has sparked the Delmarva squad with his play from the leadoff spot. The rightfielder has shined both offensively and defensively, leading the South Atlantic League in triples (8) and outfield assists (11). In 52 games, Yastrzemski is batting .303, leading the Shorebirds with six home runs and 34 runs driven in. The highlight of Yastrzemski's 2014 campaign so far was a 3-for-6 day at Lakewood with a pair of bases-clearing triples.
Among the reserve pitchers for the Northern Division team, Sebastian Vader and Jimmy Yacabonis will represent the Shorebirds as well. Vader has posted a 7-2 record with a 2.94 ERA in ten starts for Delmarva, tied for the league lead in wins. From April 26th through May 27th, Vader won six straight starts. Meanwhile, Jimmy Yacabonis has been lights out as the Shorebirds' closer. The New Jersey native leads the league with 13 saves, having yet to allow a run in 17 appearances out of the Delmarva bullpen. With a 1-0 record and 0.00 ERA, Yacabonis has been near perfect allowing just six hits in 20.0 innings compared to 26 strikeouts.
The 2014 South Atlantic League All-Star Game will be held on Tuesday, June 17th at L.P. Frans Stadium in Hickory, North Carolina. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 pm as the Northern Division faces off against the Southern Division squad.
