THE LEAD OFF: West Virginia lost 10-9 to Lakewood on Thursday night. The BlueClaws scored six runs in the first and added three in the second before the Power cracked the scoreboard. Trailing 10-2 in the third, Edwin Espinal hit his first home run of the season; a two-run shot that put the club down by six. West Virginia added two more in the fourth. In the bottom of the ninth, after Power relievers Henry Hirsch and Felipe Gonzalez retired 20 in a row, West Virginia managed three runs and left the tying run at third as the game ended. Cody Dickson took the loss while Yacksel Rios earned the win. Cody Forsythe worked the final three outs for a save.

GRAB THE OLD BAY: The Power host the Lakewood BlueClaws meet again tonight; their second of 15 games this season. West Virginia holds a 74-63 all-time series lead thanks to a 20-4 record against Lakewood during the 2013 season. The Power are 43-36 at home against the 'Claws and will play 10 of the remaining 14 meetings with Lakewood this season at Appalachian Power Park.

ESPINAL ACTIVATED: Edwin Espinal was activated from West Virginia's Disabled List on Thursday and was in the starting lineup for the series opener against Lakewood. The first baseman was placed on the disabled list last week retroactive to May 15 with a minor hand injury. Espinal had two hits, including his first home run of the season,in his return to the lineup.

MYLES DL'D: Pittsburgh has placed outfielder Candon Myles on the Power Disabled List retroactive to May 20. Myles is batting .208 over 32 games this season with no home runs, six runs batted in and 32 strikeouts.

WINNER WINNER: Buddy Borden notched his first professional win Tuesday. The right-hander, a seventh round pick last year, made 14 appearances totaling 53 innings before notching his first victory.

A CATCHER'S DOZEN: Reese McGuire's hitting streak is now at 13 straight thanks to a sixth inning double Thursday. It is the second longest current streak in the league, behind only Savannah's Jeff McNeil and his 14-game string. McGuire is batting .373 over his last 13 games.

NINE TIMES: Thursday's nine-run output was the second highest run total in a game this season for West Virginia. The club's single game high for runs in 10 (twice- April 13 vs. Lexington and May 12 at Greenville).

TRENDING DOWN: The Pittsburgh Pirates minor league system is currently a combined 79-101 and has the 28th-best winning percentage at .439. The Indianapolis Indians are the only Pittsburgh affiliate that have a winning record. The New York Mets have the best collective winning percentage among farm systems at .628 and have a winning record at each of the four levels of baseball currently being played.

PROMO UPDATE- MAY 24: West Virginia hosts Lakewood at 7:05 pm on Saturday. It is third annual Redneck Night at Appalachian Power Park and features a mason jar mug giveaway to the first 1,000 fans, a redneck wedding, Olympics, and cuisine. Stock racing legend Bobby Allison will also make a guest appearance.

POWER POINTS: Reese McGuire's on-base streak is at 17 games, the second longest current streak in the league. Harold Ramirez's on-base streak was snapped at nine straight after going 0-3 on Tuesday... The West Virginia Power front office and Appalachian Power announced the extension of the naming rights agreement for Appalachian Power Park. The stadium, in its tenth season, will remained named after the utility provider for at least the next ten seasons.

AROUND THE ORGANIZATION: Pittsburgh beat Washington 3-1 in a four-game series opener. Andrew McCutchen and Josh Harrison drove in the Bucco runs to back Edinson Volquez... Indianapolis outlasted Charlotte 7-5. Jeff Locke went six innings in the win... Altoona knocked off Akron 7-3. Willy Garcia went yard twice and Matt Curry added his first of the season... Bradenton scored twice in the bottom of the ninth to beat Daytona 2-1. Jacob Stallings singled in Josh Bell and Eric Wood for the win on a bloop hit.
